Abstract

1396739 Proximity sensor E HERMLE 9 Aug 1972 [10 Aug 1971] 37223/72 Heading G1N [Also in Division H3] A proximity sensor includes an inductive element with coils 10, 12 and a shallow coil 54 disposed over coils 10, 12 whereby physical damage to coils 10, 12 will also damage coil 54, the coils in a pot-core 14 forming an oscillatory circuit with capacitor 16 and transistor 18, the sensor including at least one supervisory circuit connected with coil 54 which provides a constant output signal provided coil 54, is not broken. A first supervisory circuit, Fig.1a (not shown), is connected between points aa of Fig.1, and provides the signal indicative of damage to the inductive element. In addition other circuits are operative to monitor (1) oscillations of the circuit falling below a prescribed amplitude (2) the supply voltage lying outside prescribed limits (3) the supply D.C. having an A.C. component in excess of a predetermined amplitude. It is stated that the sensor may utilize a capacitive element instead of an inductive element.
