Abstract

1,060,119. Centrifugal fans; silencing gaseous flow. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Dec. 15, 1964 [Dec. 31, 1963], No. 51021/64. Headings F1B and F1C. In a centrifugal fan having a cut-off 20 arranged to partially close that part of the outlet which indirectly receives the rotor discharge, a fairing 30 is arranged in the outlet passage to reduce turbulence and noise. The fairing protrudes from wall 31 an amount substantially corresponding to that of the cut-off, and preferably extends the full width of the wall. The outer cover 38 of the fairing is perforated and encloses sound absorbing material 39, such as fibre glass.
