Abstract

Hydrocarbon oils are cracked to lower boiling products using as catalyst (a) an aluminosilicate having a pore size of less than 7 Angstrom units and (b) a cracking catalyst of generalized competence, i.e. one which will act on substantially all feed components. Component (b) may be mixed oxides optionally containing promoters, clay, a homogeneous catalyst such as aluminium chloride or preferably an aluminosilicate of pore size greater than 8 Angstrom units. Preferably aluminosilicates have some hydrogen ions and/or polyvalent metal ions introduced by ion exchange and the catalysts may be mixed or embodied together or separately in a porous matrix. Oils boiling in the range 450-950 DEG F. are cracked at 875 DEG or 900 DEG F. and atmospheric pressure at 1.5-8 vol./vol./hr. to gasoline of end point 410 DEG F.
