Abstract
Hydrocarbons are cracked in the liquid phase in the presence of a zeolitic aluminosilicate catalyst having an alpha rating (activity in cracking n-hexane as compared to a standard silica-alumina) greater than one, preferably at 300-750 DEG F., and with a severity factor (ratio of catalyst to oil ratio to space velocity) of 0.09 to 0.71. The aluminosilicate may have rare earth metal ions introduced or be in the hydrogen form and its activity may be reduced by steaming or compositing with a less active or inert matrix.
