Abstract

1,055,967. Thermal regenerators. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Jan. 17, 1964 [Sept. 13, 1963], No. 36239/63. Heading F4K. Heat is exchanged between cold and hot gaseous streams 4 and 11 by circulating separate quantities of particles across the streams and through return channels 14a, 14b and 14c. As illustrated heat exchange occurs in zones I and II bounded by gas permeable walls 1 formed by parallel steel or ceramic slats and gas impermeable walls 2. The particles in each circuit are passed to sets of inlet tubes 6a, 6b, 6c, each set comprising three tubes 6a, 6a 2 , 6a 3 , Fig. 3 (not shown), from which the particles fall in layers to an outlet device 12 comprising three groups of tubes, each group comprising three tubes connected in parallel and leading to a hopper. The flow of particles through the outlet device is controlled by a slide valve 13 working over all three outlets, Fig. 4 (not shown). The particles are raised from the outlets to the corresponding inlets by motor driven screws 15a, 15b, 15c. The part of the particle path III lying between the heat exchange zones is long compared with the length of the heat exchange zones and may be provided with baffles, Fig. 6 (not shown), to assist in maintaining separate layers of particles between the inlets and outlets. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the particle paths in the heat exchange zones are inclined to the gas flow paths.
