Abstract

A frame e.g. for converting an existing single sash window into a double sash window comprises frame members, Fig. 2, of extruded synthetic resin plastic e.g. nylon of nominally rectangular section having an inwardly facing slot 11 for a pane of glass etc. and an outwardly facing channel 13, of T-section or other undercut section and one piece L-spaped junction bar 17, Fig. 3, moulded in synthetic resin plastics and of cross section corresponding to the channel 13 to be a close sliding fit therein and is secured by stub screws 19. The intermediate portion of each arm is recessed at 17<SP>1</SP> and a block 32 lying snugly against the square cut ends of the bars 10 hides the corner of the junction bar 17 and has a slot 35 to receive the corner of the pane. One arm of the bar 17 has integral therewith a lug 20 with a pivot hole 21 for supporting the frame pivotally on a hinge pin (Figs. 9-14, not shown) of the existing frame, or for co-operation with forked catches (Fig. 15-17, not shown) on the existing frame for detachably mounting the frame. The frame may be provided with lugs or handles having portions slidable into the groove 13 and located therein before assembly of the corner joints and held in place by grub screws. Grooves 12 in the frame members and similar grooves in the blocks 32 accommodate sealing strips (Fig. 20, not shown) for sealing between the frame and its mounting surrounding frames etc.
