Abstract

1,048,801. Snap action switches. CUTLERHAMMER Inc. Jan. 29, 1965 [Jan. 29, 1964], No. 4074/65. Heading H2B. An electric switch has stationary contacts 16 connected to terminals 18, a member 34 pivoted on fulcrum 28, a spring moving contact 36 clamped between fulcrum 28 and base 14 and connected to terminal 32, and an actuator pivoted in bushing 10 mounted on panel 4 by ring nut 8 and locknut 6 and carrying a spring-loaded plunger 24 bearing on member 34. Movement of actuator 20 to the right moves plunger 24 to the left pivoting the left-hand arm of member 34 downwards pressing on hump 40 of contact 36 so that leg 38 of contact 36 bends until wing 42 of contact 36 touches contact 16, further downwards movement of the left-hand arm of member 34 causing hump 40 to flatten out and cause wing 42 to wipe across contact 16. Protrusions 44 on member 34 limit the downwards movements of the arms of member 34 and also give added pressure on wings 42 when in contact with contacts 16. Cavity 14a of base 14 is divided into separate compartments, one of which is shown, by walls 14b, each separate compartment housing one pole.
