Abstract

A flat knitted fabric is produced on a straight bar machine which has sinkers with throats at two levels and loop transfer points so that yarns fed from two yarn carriers are knitted in a plated relationship but with alternate sinker loops of the plated yarn extended to form pile loops and with the alternate needle loops transferred to the adjacent needles such that the resultant fabric is a flat openwork fabric with pile loops, Fig. 6 not shown. The ground yarn may be a synthetic yarn and the plated pile yarn composed of cotton.
