Abstract

1,045,114. Boxes; packaging; masted lift trucks; pallets. LAKE ASBESTOS OF QUEBEC Ltd. March 12, 1965 [March 18, 1964], No. 10689/65. Headings B8C, B8H and B8P. Boxes for compressed blocks or packets of asbestos are each made from three scored blanks 10, 11, 12 and have projecting lips 14 at their front edges, so that when they are stacked on top of one another the lips can be gripped by pincers on the fork of a masted lift track, to draw the individual boxes on to the fork. The relatively heavy corrugated or cardboard base blank 10 of each box has its edge flaps 15 glued, taped or stapled to the side walls of the blank 12, which is of lesser weight cardboard &c., and its tabs 16 are tucked through slots 31 to leave the lip 14 projecting. The box is then mounted inside a metal jig (not shown), and the asbestos blocks &c. are packed in through the open rear wall. When the box is full, the back blank 11 is similarly glued &c. to the other two blanks, and finally top flaps 21, 25, 26 are secured. Masted lift trucks.-A fork 40, Fig. 6 (not shown), may be raised &c. by a mast 42 on a lift truck, and carries an horizontally-movable head 45 provided with pincers 43, 44, Fig. 7 (not shown). To remove a stacked box A from a pile, the pincers 43, 44 are projected forwards to grip the box lip 14, and then withdrawn to pull the box on to the fork 40.
