Abstract
1,041,780. Percussion tools. JAEGER MACHINE CO. June 22,1965 [Aug.10, 1964], No. 26359/65. Heading B4C. The piston 11 (not shown) of a pneumatic percussion tool is raised by compressed air supplied past a manually-operated throttle valve 38 into a chamber 50a above an annular valve member 55 and through bores 51 in the valve chest 50 and passages 30 (not shown) in the cylinder wall 15, to enter the cylinder through radial bores beneath the piston 11. When the piston 11 nears the upper end of the cylinder 15 the air pressure above it is such that the valve member 55 is raised to disconnect the bores 51 from the compressed air supply and to connect them to a chamber 53 vented to the atmosphere through a bore 54 (not shown). Compressed air is then supplied to the bores 58 in the valve member 55 to the space above the piston 11, whilst the space below the piston is exhausted to the atmosphere through ports in the cylinder wall. The piston 11 is thus driven downwardly and the valve member 55 returns to its lower position. Lubricating oil provided in a chamber 46 seeps through a porous plug 47 on to the valve parts when the compressed air supply is cut off.
