Abstract

987,104. Percussive drills. ATLAS COTCO A.B. Sept. 4, 1961 [Sept. 9, 1960], No 31670/61. Heading B4C. An I.C. engine operated tool is connected to pressure fluid consuming means actuated by fluid compressed by the tool. The tool 10, which is generally in accordance with Specification 739,453, has a twist mechanism, and a power piston 14 which pumps air from a compresser chamber 42 to a chamber 53 to effect the return strokes of a hammer piston 28. A plug 62 having a passage 58 for flushing air has a passage 64 connected by a conduit 66 to a manually operable valve 90 controlling supply: the consuming means which is to feed cylinders 78 mounted on a trolley 70 and housing pistons 82 which support the tool. The plug may be replaced by one the passage 58 where the tool is a rail spike driver, or may be replaced by one without the passage 64 when the tool is removed from the feeding means for use as a hand tool. The feeding means may be double or single acting, and may be arranged to cut-off the flushing-fluid when actuated. In a modification , the hammer piston may be raised by the gases of combustion gas. In a flirther modification (Fig. 9, not shown) the feeding means is a feed leg pivoted to the tool casing. The fluid may be oil.
