Abstract
1,041,322. Incandescent electric lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 24, 1964 [Feb. 20, 1963], No. 3153/64. Heading H1F. An iodine-cycle lamp comprises a tubular envelope having an internal diameter between 4 mm. and 20 mm. and a length exceeding 3 times the diameter, a coiled tungsten filament extending axially of the envelope between supply conductors sealed through the envelope, and a gas filling containing either argon, krypton or xenon at a minimum-pressure at room temperature of 3300 mm. Hg for argon, 2300 mm. Hg for krypton or 1300 mm. Hg for xenon together with iodine, the pressure sufficing to prevent separation of the iodine vapour from the gas when the lamp is operated in a vertical position at a filament temperature of 2950 K., the pressures being increased by about 200 mm. Hg for each increase of 150 K. in filament temperature. The iodine content is in excess of 0À02 micromole per c.c. of envelope volume, e.g. 0À5 to 1 micromole, and the filament loading must be such as to maintain the tube walls at a temperature above 250 C.
