Abstract

The rotor of the windmill is mounted with its axis vertical. The eight blades are arranged equally spaced around the rotor periphery. The blades are so mounted with their vertical axes that they oscillate as the rotor rotates so that the blade is aligned to the direction of the wind in such a way to provide a maximum tangential force at low wind speeds. The blade surfaces are flexible and are so controlled by internal rollers that the contour can be modified to suit the wind force. The windmill drives a generator linked to accumulators for storing excess energy for use during periods of calm.
