Abstract
The wheel is mounted in a stream, river on tidal waters, and to be totally submerged. A mast (1) is mounted vertically in a socket (2) which is anchored to the bed of the stream. The shaft carries a rotor which has a central hub (4) and a number of radial blades (6) carried on radial arms (5) fixed to the hub. The blades are able to rotate 90 deg. around the arms (5), so that they are fully feathered during the half revolution when they are travelling against the stream. Toggles (7) keep the blade vertical when travelling with the stream. The water wheel may drive a generator or pump.
