Abstract
Preparation of a tungsten core coated with titanium boride by effecting a vapour phase reaction between a boron halide BCl3 a titanium halide pref. TiCl4 and hydrogen, pref. under pressure and at 1150-1300 degrees C in the presence of a tungsten substrate. The ratios of the B and Ti halides in the reaction are suitably those to produce a stoichiometric titanium boride. Opt. the Ti3B4 may be given a thin metal coating.
