Abstract
1408193 Alumina and zirconia coatings SANDVIK AB 6 July 1972 [7 July 1971] 31829/72 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions B2 and C7] A cemented carbide article, e.g. of Ti, Ta, W or Nb with Co, Fe, or Ni as a binder is coated with a layer, less than 10 microns thick, of aluminium oxide, zirconium oxide or mixtures thereof. The layer which may be heated (700‹ to 1200‹ C.) after deposition may be applied by plasma torch, or from the vapour state by evaporation, sputtering or chemical vapour deposition from, e.g. the metal halide. The zirconium oxide may be deposited with a stabilizing metal oxide, e.g. MgO.
