A dental pin comprises a generally frustoconical member 2 having a cross-section, in any plane perpendicular to its longitudinal axis of elongate shape comprising two end portions of arcuate contour 3, 4 connected by an intermediate portion having edges 5, 6, and a member 7 provided on the larger end surface of the member 2, said member being preferably cylindrical and coaxial with the member 2. Grooves 8 and 9 are formed in the lateral surface of the member 2 to allow any excess cement used to be discharged and the pin may be formed from any suitable material including alloy, plastics or precious metal. The form of the edges 5 and 6 of the intermediate portion is chosen to conform generally to the shape of the tooth into which the pin is to be located and edges 5 and 6 may be for example concave, as shown convex, fig. 5 (not shown), or plane, fig. 4 (not shown). The member 2 is cemented into a hole drilled in the tooth root and the member 7 provides a fixing means for any appropriate dental prosthesis element.
