Abstract

The invention relates to an Emergency Towing System (1) for placing on a vessel (14), primarily a ship or floating offshore installation, where a towline (6) is pulled out to a safe distance from the vessel (14) to enable recovery by a towboat, etc. (25). It consists of a primary section comprising: a) a container containing a towline (6) with a first end attached to a guidewire (7) protruding through a hole in a hatch (4) on the front of the container (3), and the other end equipped with a stopper device (9) fixed inside the container (3); and b) a secondary section (10) comprising a buoy arrangement (11) including a drag anchor (12) and a bowsing line (13), which arrangement (11) has a diameter less than the chock eye (15) intended to be used for engaging the stopper device (9).
