Abstract
A mooring buoy has a hole passing through it for a mooring chain. The buoy has a main flotation part formed from flexible plastic filled with high density foam which provides the buoy with buoyancy, a core fabricated from high density resin which lines the hole to allow free running of the chain therethrough, a through pin which has an eye at each end, one for connection to the chain and one for the connection to a vessel and a stopper ball fabricated from high density resin which is formed around the pin to sit on top of the buoy and prevent the pin from passing through the hole. The buoy may be radar reflective and may have luminous impregnation in the outer flexible plastic of the main flotation part.
Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
2361215 The free floating buoy is a marine buoy designed to harness/moor vessels of all types when the buoy is connected by chain to a mooring blocklor pin. When a vessel connects a line to the top eye of the stopper ball and the other end of the line to the vessel, the vessel becomes securely moored. When the weight of the vessel is taken on the chain and mooring block, a small length of chain is lifted through the core while leaving the buoy floating freely on the surface. When the vessel releases the line attached to the top eye of the stopper ball, the chain passes back through the hole in the core, until the stopper ball meets the core.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INDIVIDUAL PARTS
STOPPER BALL AND THROUGH PIN The stopper ball's function is to prevent the chain from passing completely through the core.
The ball is fabricated from high density resins, formed around the "through pin" with its top and bottom eye's. The chain is connected to the bottom eye of the through pin.
THE CORE The core is also fabricated from the same high density resins. Its function is to allow the chain to pass freely through its centre while forming a shoulder for the stopper ball to rest upon. The core's shape secures the floatation part together with itself THE FLOATATION PART The floatation part is constructed from flexible plastic filled with unsinkable high density foam containing random, allnidum radar reflective tape. The function of the flotation part is to give buoyancy to the chain (while not in use). Luminous particles used in the outer skin allow detection in the dark.

Claims (6)
1.
The free floating buoy does not cause damage to the sides of a vessel because it remains at all times on the surface of the water.
2.
The ftee floating buoy permits all vessels to secure to the top eye of the stopper ball with no possibility of damage to the vessel from the buoy.
3.
A vessel is connected simply to the chain and block for its security, not to the buoy.
4.
The shape of the free floating buoy does not detract from sea scapes.
5.
The free floating buoy can be located in the dark through the use of a ship's radar (because of its reflective inserted tapes)
6.
The floatation part is easily seen in the dark. Due to luminous impregnation of the outer skin.
