Abstract
1527388 Sea anchor R D MENGLER 27 Aug 1976 [2 Feb 1976] 35753/76 Heading B7V A sea anchor comprises a flexible sheet 11 secured by lines 12 to a stem comprising an outer stem member 13 having an inner stem member 14 slidable therein which inner stem member 14 is connected at one end of the sheet 12 and at the other end, which is located within the stem member 13, to a line 16 which passes through the stem member 13 and is connected to a buoy or float 7. The anchor 13 also provided with a bowing line 19 one end of which is secured to an eye 15 of the stem member 13 and the other end of which may be secured to a vessel. A float 18 prevents the anchor from rotating in use. In use, as the anchor is towed, water pressure acts on the sheet 11 to pull the stem member 14 to an extended position. By pulling on line 16, the stem member 14 is retracted within the stem member 13 and'the sheet 11 is caused to collapse.
