Abstract

In a shuttleless loom the weft is placed across the path of the weft inserter by a vertically oscillating arm 8, the weft being anchored below the path of the inserter by a spring- loaded pivoting member 24, Fig. 6a on one pass of the inserter and being held by a clamp 14, 19, Figs 1A, 3a associated with a weft cutter 14, 18, or a second pass of the inserter. The cutter blade 14, operated by a cam 7, cooperates with the edge 18a, Fig. 1A, and cut the thread and immediately clamps the end against a plastics block 19. In the Fig. 3a position the flange of the weft inserter 13 to carry the thread to the middle of the shed places the thread below the upper arm of the end of the pivoting member 24 so that when the arm 8 rises prior to the subsequent pass of the inserter, the thread remains held by the arm 24 in the path of the inserter. On the subsequent pass, the thread under tension pivots the arm 24 to disengage the thread therefrom.
