A process for the production of an improved fuel for jet engines, characterized by hydrocracking a hydrocarbon material of which less than about 20% by volume boils below about 288º C and whose hydrocarbon material contains less than about 50% by volume of aromatic constituents , in the presence of a two component hydrocracking catalyst at a temperature between about 343º and about 454º C, a pressure greater than about 126 kilograms per square centimeter gauge, a liquid hourly space velocity between about 0.5 and about 3.0 volumes of hydrocarbon material per volume of catalyst per hour and a hydrogen feed rate greater than 89 m3 under normal/100 liter conditions, fractionate the effluent from the hydrocracking operation to obtain a boiling fraction in the range of approximately 177º to approximately at 288º C and a fraction boiling above about 288º C, recycling the fraction boiling above about 288º C to the hydrocracking operation and recovering as a product, the boiling fraction between about 177º and about 288º C.
