Abstract

Process for the alkylation of an aromatic hydrocarbon in which the aromatic hydrocarbon alkylation is carried out in the presence of boron trifluoride in a reaction zone characterized in that a gaseous fraction containing boron trifluoride mono-alkylated liquid aromatic hydrocarbon fraction and a hydrocarbon fraction the polyalcoholic basic liquid aromatic is separated from the effluent of the reaction zone and between said gas fraction is washed with at least a part of said gas fraction is washed with at least a part of said polyalcohilated liquid aromatic fraction to absorb boron trifluoride in the last fraction and the fraction the resulting polyalcohlyl aromatic hydrocarbon containing boron trifluoride is delivered to the reaction zone.
