Container with an opening provided on the top of the container (1) which can be closed by a lid (2), the opening being surrounded by an outwardly flanged, inverted U-shaped container upper edge (3) in cross section, the lid (2) having at least in sections a lid peripheral edge (7) extending vertically downwards and at least one tab (8) extending inwards at the end of the lid peripheral edge (7) and gripping the outer web of the container upper edge (3) at least on two opposite fastening sides of the container (1), characterized in that a guide edge (11) is provided at least on the two fastening sides of the container (1) outward from the container upper edge (3), and that just sufficient free space is provided between the container upper edge (3) and the guide edge (11) for a displaceable receptacle of the lid peripheral edge (7).

2. Container according to claim 1, characterized in that the upper end of the guide edge (11) overlaps the lower end of the outer web (9) of the container upper edge (3) in a vertical extension.

Container according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the guide edge (11) is part of a wall part extending over the entire circumference of the container (1) and that on at least one of the sides of the container (1) diagonally opposite the fastening sides, recesses are provided in the wall part for the passage of the lid peripheral edges (7) with the tabs (8) arranged at the end of the lid peripheral edges (7).

4. Container according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the guide edge (11) is connected to the container wall via a number of recesses for the passage of the lid peripheral edge (7) with the tabs (8) arranged at the end of the lid peripheral edge (7) of vertical ribs (13).

5. Container according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the lid (2) consists of a first lid half (4) and a second lid half (5) hingedly connected to the first lid half (4) and that only the first lid half (4) has tabs (8) arranged at the end of the lid peripheral edges (7).
