Durch den Effekt der Reflektion des Lichtes sollen Rückstrahler die Sicherheit der Straßenfahrzeuge im Straßenverkehr bei Dunkelheit und einsetzender Dunkelheit weiter erhöhen. Mit der Zunahme der Straßenfahrzeuge erhöht sich die Verkehrsdichte der beteiligten Fahrzeuge. Zum Schutz der Straßenfahrzeuge mit Speichenrädem werden teilweise Radwege zwischen Fahrbahnen und Fußwegen angelegt.
