Description
The effect of fatty alcohol orthophosphoric acid esters - hereinafter referred to as "alkyl phosphates" - as foam suppressors, for example in surfactant formulations, is already known. In DT-OS 1 963 864 mixtures of mono-, di- and trialkyl phosphates are known which cause reduced foam formation in dishwashing detergents. According to this reference, the best results are obtained with mixtures which, in addition to monoalkyl phosphates, contain at least 50% of di- and / or trialkyl phosphates. According to the cited reference, such ester mixtures are specifically recommended which, overall, contain a higher number of hydrophobic fatty alkyl radicals. However, these mixtures are less suitable for removing protein-containing residues, since in the presence of protein a foam that is still too strong is developed during the process.
From DT-OS 2,362,582 monoalkyl phosphates or ester mixtures containing at least 85% monoalkyl phosphate are known as improved foam suppressors. However, the results are not yet optimal.
The aim of the invention was therefore to find improved foam suppressors based on monoalkyl phosphates which, in surfactant formulations for detergents and cleaning agents, give satisfactory results even at high temperatures (approx. 95 ° C.).
We have found foam suppressors that contain alkyl monophosphates as an effective principle, characterized in that the foam suppressors are made up of a mixture of - based on the mixture - 10 to 90% by weight of a C [deep] 8 to C [deep] 20- Monoalkyl and / or dialkyl phosphates and 90 to 10% by weight of a 3 to 15-fold propoxylated C [deep] 8 to C [deep] 20 alcohol.
According to the invention, phosphoric acid monoalkyl esters are used as the first component. The alkyl groups of the esterified alcohols contain 8 to 20, preferably 9 to 20 and especially, because they are of particular technical interest, 9 to 18 carbon atoms.
In the preparation of the esters, the alcohols can be used individually or as a mixture. Examples of alcohols include nonanol, decanol, undecanol, cetyl alcohol, tridecanol, pentadecanol, stearyl alcohol, myristyl alcohol, nonadecanol, arachyl alcohol, heneicosanol, behenyl alcohol, 2-ethylhexanol, isooctanol, isodecanol and mixtures thereof. In addition, the technical oxo alcohol mixtures obtained by hydroformylation of Ziegler olefins, as well as alcohol mixtures of cracked olefins, are mainly C [low] 9 to C [low] 11, C [low] 12 to C [low] 15 - and C [deep] 16 to C [deep] 20 cuts. The most technically important alcoholic components for the esterification are the oxo-C [deep] 9 to C [deep] 11 and C [deep] 12 to C [deep] 15 cuts as well as stearyl alcohol.
The monoalkyl phosphates are prepared in a known manner, for example according to Houben-Weyl, Methods of Organic Chemistry, Volume XII / 2, pages 163 to 164 or, particularly advantageously, according to the process of German Offenlegungsschrift 23 50 851. The products obtained by the latter process can be used without further cleaning.
Suitable oxpropylated alcohols are those with 2 to 20, preferably with 3 to 15 propylene oxide groups. The underlying alcohols are those with 8 to 20 carbon atoms and are the same alcohols as can be used as basic compounds of the monoalkyl phosphates of the first component. Particularly favorable here are olefinically unsaturated alcohols with 10 to 18 carbon atoms, especially the C [deep] 16 to C [deep] 18 alcohol known as "ocenol". The first component is contained in the foam suppressor at 10 to 90% by weight - based on the foam suppressor - the second at 90 to 10% by weight. Preferably, 40 to 60% by weight of the alkyl phosphate and 60 to 40% by weight of the oxopropylated alcohol are used.
The foam suppressor mixtures to be used according to the invention can be used with good success in surfactant formulations for detergents and cleaning agents.
For detergents and cleaning agents, the alkyl phosphates to be used according to the invention are used in conjunction with nonionic, anionic and / or amphoteric surfactants.
Oxethylation products of natural or synthetic fatty alcohols with more than 7 carbon atoms, for example, are used as non-biogenic surfactants. 3 to 50 times oxyethylated oxo alcohols are especially recommended, especially the C [deep] 9 to C [deep] 11-, C [deep] 12- to C [deep] 15- and C [deep] 16- to C [deep] 20 cuts, as nonionic surfactants. Alkylphenols, in particular octylphenol, nonylphenol or dodecylphenol in the form of their 3 to 50-fold oxyethylation products, are also suitable. Condensation products of fatty acids with alkanolamines in their 3 to 50-fold oxethylated form are also particularly suitable as surfactants, since they also have a dispersing or solubilizing influence on monoalkyl phosphates. Particularly suitable nonionic surfactants are polymerization products of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide with molecular weights between 500 and 2500. Block copolymers of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide with molecular weights between 500 and 8500 are also suitable nonionic surfactants.
Anionic surfactants, which can be used alone or in mixtures with the above-mentioned nonionic surfactants, are above all C [deep] 8 to C [deep] 12-alkylbenzenesulfonates, ether sulfates of long-chain alcohols with 8 to 22 carbon atoms or of C [ deep] 8- to C [deep] 15-alkylphenols or the ether sulfates of the above-mentioned oxethylates as well as C [deep] 8- to C [deep] 22-alkanesulfonates and small alpha-C [deep] 8- to C [deep] 22-olefin sulfonates or mixtures thereof which can be used according to the invention. Amphoteric surfactants are primarily betaines of the aminocarboxylic acid or alkyl-substituted aminocarboxylic acid type, which can also be used on their own or in a mixture with the above-mentioned surfactants.
The alkyl phosphates to be used according to the invention are contained in the surfactant formulations at 0.5 to 10%, based on the weight of the formulation, preferably at 1 to 5% by weight.
If mixtures of nonionic, anionic and / or zwitterionic surfactants are used, then - based on the weight of the surfactant mixture - generally up to 80% by weight of a particular mixture partner is present. In addition to pure nonionic or anionic or zwitterionic surfactants, binary mixtures with a ratio of 1: 0.5 to 2 are used as preferred mixtures.
In the case of detergents and cleaning agents with the surfactant formulations mentioned and the foam suppressors to be used according to the invention, additives of sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, sodium tripolyphosphate, soda, sodium carbonate, tri- or disodium orthophosphate, sodium metasilicate, water glass, borax or mixtures thereof, tetrasodium pyrophosphate or mixtures thereof can also be used in the customary manner Complexing acids such as nitrilotriacetic acid, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, their alkali salts or other complexing agents known per se may be present.
The foam-reducing effect of foam suppressors in cleaning agents can be seen from the examples below.

The following alkyl phosphate mixtures with fatty alcohol propoxylate were tested in a dishwasher as follows:
Aus 45 Teilen Pentanatriumtriphosphat, 50 Teilen Natriummetasilikat und 5 Teilen Soda wird eine Buildermischung hergestellt.A builder mixture is prepared from 45 parts of pentasodium triphosphate, 50 parts of sodium metasilicate and 5 parts of soda.

The number of revolutions of the spray arm is determined by magnetic induction measurement with the aid of a counter.
Es werden folgende Schaumwerte erhalten:The number of revolutions of the spray arm is reduced by foam formation, which occurs particularly when protein is present. This increase or decrease in the number of revolutions is a measure of the suitability of a foam suppressor in the dishwasher. The test time is 12 minutes, the end result being the mean value of the revolutions from 6 intermediate measurements. The aforementioned mixtures are used in 10 liters of water in the machine. The following foam values are obtained:
