For heating living spaces and offices using a central heating system (hot water heating), radiators installed in the rooms are by far the most commonly used heat source. However, these radiators - regardless of the make or model - do not make the rooms any more beautiful; on the contrary, they are just ugly fittings.

Therefore, there is often a need to conceal these unsightly radiators with built-in elements so that they no longer disturb the harmony of the interior. These panels, which are usually installed under the window sills but are also built into the surrounds of free-standing radiators, usually consist of strong wooden frames into which bast grids are inserted, which are then framed in wooden frames, and are thus firmly connected to the floor and walls.

Disguise«-the following decisive disadvantages:

1.) The heat radiated by the radiator is too strongly contained by the wooden construction with the close-meshed bast grids, as the permeability is too low and thus considerable heat losses occur.

2.) Due to the permanent installation, the cladding must be left behind when moving and is therefore no longer usable.

These major disadvantages are completely avoided for the first time with the new portable metal mesh cladding described here. This construction

allows the radiated heat of the radiator to enter the room almost unhindered by means of the thin-meshed bars and the light tubular frame,

shields the ugly radiators almost completely and also creates a modern living design

and can be folded up at any time and thus transported or moved or even taken apart.

These advantages are achieved by the fact that this cladding construction, in contrast to the usual fixed installations, is made exclusively of metal and therefore only requires a thin tubular frame to achieve the necessary stability. The metal grille inserted into the metal tubular frame visually covers the radiators to a large extent, but due to the lightness of the material and the wide-meshed arrangement of the grille bars, it allows a

almost unhindered radiation of radiator heat into the room.

To complete the covering of the radiator with the cover, a similarly constructed tubular frame with a metal mesh as a side part is attached to each side of the front tubular frame in such a way that a metal eyelet is attached (welded or soldered) to the upper and lower part of each side of the front tubular metal frame, into which the frame of the side parts is inserted using suitable pins and is thus attached to the main frame in a rotating manner. The front frame of the side parts is provided with a foot so that the entire construction has a stable hold with the feet of the side parts folded up at 90 degrees to the main frame and the feet attached to the main frame.

The side parts can be folded towards the main frame using the pins that are inserted into the eyelets on the top and bottom of the main frame, so that they can be transported together with the main frame. The loose and rotating pin connection even allows the side parts to be removed so that they can be moved independently of the main frame.

The radiator installed under a window sill can be completely enclosed with this collapsible and portable metal mesh cover by placing the main frame with the feet inserted into the lower ends of the tubular frame on both sides in front of the radiator front and folding the side parts forwards to enclose the radiator on the sides. The feet inserted into the front tubular frame of the side parts also ensure that the side parts are firmly held to the floor.

Adjusting the radiator valves on one side is not hindered, nor is operating the air outlet valve on the other, as all that is required is to fold the respective side part back slightly, which provides access. This is another advantage over the permanently installed wooden frames, where the grille has to be completely removed to allow access to the radiator.

To cover a free-standing radiator, this construction can be supplemented by another lattice frame, which can be placed on the two tubes of the main frame using two pins attached to the rear ends of the frame and rests on the two side parts with two pads attached to the left and right of the front part, thus also covering the radiator from above. In this way, the entire construction can also be used as a device for setting up decorative objects such as a window or fireplace bench, with the advantage that here too, thanks to the wide-meshed lattice bars, the warm air can also radiate upwards unhindered.

The overall design of the metal mesh cladding must be adapted to the standard dimensions of the radiators so that the front frame, the side panels and the cover maintain a distance of approx. 100 to 120 mm from the radiator body, so that the metal cladding does not heat up even when high levels of heat are emitted. All metals can be used to make the cladding, although the primary consideration is to use light metal to improve transportability.

Transportability can be further improved by replacing the front main lattice frame with two equally sized sub-frames with corresponding latticework, thus dividing it in the middle. The two sub-frames are hung in a stronger central standpipe in the same way as the side parts in the outer frames, namely by means of pins that are inserted into corresponding eyelets welded to both sides of the central standpipe. This means that the sub-frames are also movable and can be folded over after the side parts have been folded in, so that the entire panel can be folded in half for transport.

Claims (4)

1. Portable metal grid covering for radiators made of variable, movable parts with heat-permeable gridwork, characterized in that a metal tube frame (main frame) provided with a grid made of thin, light metal rods is made stable by feet embedded in the outer tubes at the bottom and is provided on both sides with a side part made of metal tubes with gridwork in such a way that these side parts are inserted into corresponding eyelets welded to both sides of the main frame by means of two pins welded to the rear tube, whereby these side parts are connected to the main frame in a pivoting manner and can thus be completely folded in and out. 2. Portable metal grid cladding according to claim 1, characterized in that, as well as on the main frame, feet are also inserted into the front tubes of the side parts, so that the grid frame with the side parts folded up at right angles to the main frame stands firmly about 100 to 150 mm above the ground and thus completely covers the radiator at the front and sides. 3. Transportable metal grid covering for radiators according to claims 1 and 2, characterized in that instead of the rigid front main frame according to claim 1, two equally large partial frames, made stable by feet inserted into the outer tubes according to claim 2, are suspended in a stronger standpipe with a larger diameter than the grid side tubes in the same way as the side parts according to claim 1, namely by means of pins which are let into eyelets welded on both sides of the middle standpipe, with which the partial frames can be movably folded open and closed, so that after folding the side parts onto the partial frames, these can in turn be folded together against each other and the volume of the overall construction can be halved for transport. 4. Portable metal grid cover for radiators according to claims 1-3, characterized in that, in order to completely enclose free-standing radiators, a cover consisting of a further metal tube frame with grid bars in the dimensions of the unfolded cover is placed on the cover according to protection claims 1-3 in such a way that at all four corners of the cover frame, suitable pins are welded into the tubes of the main frame and the side parts and are inserted into the tubes by means of these, so that the stability of the overall construction is further increased and a support surface is created above the radiator, which can be removed and transported at any time due to the pin-eye connection.
