Seating/reclining furniture

The invention relates to a seating/reclining furniture item with at least one seating/reclining surface which is supported by at least two cantilever bracket structures, each cantilever bracket structure having at least one base bracket section, one swivel bracket section and one horizontal bracket section, the base bracket section being provided for resting substantially horizontally on a floor, the swivel bracket section further connecting the base bracket section and the horizontal bracket section to one another in a vertical or vertically inclined orientation, and the horizontal bracket section being provided for a substantially horizontal arrangement above the base bracket section.

A chair with two such cantilever bar structures arranged parallel to each other is known as a so-called "Stam-Schwinger".

The base bar section, the swivel bar section and the horizontal bar section are arranged in a U-shape tilted by 90°. This chair therefore has no vertical support at the back between the horizontal bar sections and the floor. A connecting textile is stretched between the two horizontal bar sections and between two back bar sections that are connected vertically to the horizontal bar sections, which serves as a seat or backrest. This type of cantilever structure ensures a comfortable seating experience, as the simple weight distribution

storage - swiveling or swinging of the seat can be caused.

It is an object of the invention to further develop the basic structure of a seating/reclining piece of furniture of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that new designs of this piece of furniture are possible.

This object is achieved by a seating/reclining furniture with the features of claim 1 and in particular in that the seating/reclining surface is arranged offset at the bottom with respect to the horizontal bar sections.

In the invention, despite a cantilever structure, the seat/lying surface is not arranged at the same height as the horizontal bar sections - as in the well-known "Stam-Schwinger". Instead, the seat/lying surface is suspended or otherwise attached to the cantilever bar structures in such a way that it is spaced downwards with respect to the plane spanned by the parallel horizontal bar sections.

This downward offset arrangement of the seat/lying surface means that the centre of gravity of the seat/lying surface is arranged comparatively low and the furniture thus has a comparatively high stability with regard to static loads and swivel movements despite the cantilever structure. The seat/lying furniture according to the invention can therefore be statically or dynamically loaded with a comparatively large weight, which means that, for example, upholstering the seat/lying surface and the associated additional weight load can be easily

is possible. The seating/reclining furniture according to the invention is therefore particularly suitable as an upholstered sofa or upholstered armchair.

A further advantage of the invention is that the cantilever bar structures can serve as armrests when arranged at the side, without additional bar sections or other components being required to design the furniture with armrests. In contrast, in the classic design of a cantilever chair, the horizontal bar sections and the seat/lying surface are arranged at the same height, so that - if armrests are desired - these must be implemented using additional components.

It should also be noted that directional and positional information given in connection with the invention refers to the position of use of the seating/reclining furniture.

In the furniture according to the invention, at least the underside of the seat/lying surface is arranged at a distance from the horizontal bar sections. Preferably, however, the top of the seat/lying surface also runs below the horizontal bar sections. This applies in particular when the seat/lying surface is padded with a seat/lying cushion arrangement.

In a particularly advantageous development of the invention, the horizontal bar sections can - as already mentioned - be designed as armrests. In this case, it is possible to provide the horizontal bar sections or armrests with a casing.

Alternatively or additionally, the horizontal bar sections can serve as a base for each armrest of the furniture.

A particularly stable structure of the seating/reclining furniture is achieved when the cantilever bar structures are connected to one another by one or more cross-member struts. In this case, the cantilever bar structures can form a support frame or a support structure with the cross-member struts to which the seating/reclining surface is attached. In particular, the seating/reclining surface can be attached exclusively to the cross-member struts. In this way, it can be ensured that the cantilever bar structures do not transfer any undesirable shear, torsion or compression forces to the seating/reclining surface in the event of deformation due to swinging or pivoting, which could lead to damage - such as cracking - there or to other fastening or panel parts.

Such a suspension or fastening of the seat/lying surface to a support frame can be realized in a particularly stable manner in that the seat/lying surface forms a basket arrangement with at least two side walls, which is fastened to the support frame explained.

Furthermore, it is preferred if the cantilever bar structures are supplemented by back bar sections on the horizontal bar sections, which run vertically or are inclined with respect to the vertical. In this case, a back surface can be provided between the back bar sections. However, such a design is not absolutely necessary.

Fig. 1 shows a sofa with a cantilever structure, i.e. a structure without vertical supports at the back. This sofa has two cantilever bracket structures 11 arranged parallel to each other on both of its front sides, which can be made of wood, a wood laminate, an additional metal reinforcement or exclusively of metal, for example.

The cantilever structure shown allows the user of the sofa to easily and comfortably pivot or swing the cantilever bar structures 11 and thus the sitting/lying surface.

The cantilever bar structures 11 have a horizontal base bar section 13 on their respective undersides, which rests on a floor. This section 13 is followed by a substantially vertically aligned swivel bar section 15. This transitions into a horizontal bar section 17, which runs substantially above the base bar section 13 with a horizontal orientation. The horizontal bar section 17 is adjoined by an approximately vertically running back bar section 19. The swivel bar sections 15 thus form the only support connection of the sofa to the base bar sections 13 or to the floor, and they are designed to be elastically pivotable together with the respective transition to the adjacent base bar section 13 to enable a pivoting movement.

The sofa according to Fig. 1 is fully upholstered. In particular, its seat/reclining surface has a seat/reclining cushion arrangement 21. The seat/reclining cushion arrangement 21 extends between the horizontal bar sections 17 and is arranged offset downwards with respect to these, however, such that the upper side 23 of the cushion arrangement 21 runs below the horizontal bar sections 17. The sofa is also provided with a back cushion arrangement 25. In addition, armrest cushions 27 are provided on the upper side of the horizontal bar sections 17.

The furniture according to the invention shown in Fig. 1 is characterized by the fact that it has a cantilever structure with the design of the seat/reclining

surface is combined with an upholstery arrangement 21, so that a cantilever sofa is created. As the seat/reclining upholstery arrangement 21 is arranged below the horizontal bar sections 17 of the cantilever bar structures 11 in this sofa, the seat/reclining surface has a comparatively low center of gravity - even when loaded by one or more users of the sofa - so that the required stability of the sofa is guaranteed. In other words, this structure leads to a distribution of the weight forces that favors a cantilever structure for a sofa. 10

In the cantilever structure of the sofa shown in Fig. 1, the horizontal bar sections 17 serve as armrests or as a base for the armrest cushions 27.

The exact structure of the sofa is explained below according to Fig. 1.

The basic structure of the sofa (body) essentially consists of a support frame to which a basket arrangement is attached.

An upper cross member strut 29 connects the two upper ends of the back bar sections 19 of the cantilever bar structures 11 (see Fig. 4). The swivel bar sections 15 of the cantilever bar structures are connected to one another via a lower cross member strut 31 (see Fig. 2). The cantilever bar structures 11 together with the cross member struts 29, 31 form the aforementioned support frame.

or 37, furthermore via a front and a rear central connecting strut 39 or 41, as well as via an upper connecting strut 43, the respective position of which can be seen in particular from the side view according to Fig. 6. A back cladding surface 45 extends along the rear end faces of the side cheeks 33. Two vertical ribs 47 extend along the front of this back cladding surface 45 in a symmetrical arrangement starting from the upper connecting strut 43 to the rear lower connecting strut 37. The vertical ribs 47 run between the front and the rear central connecting strut 39 or 41 and receive them in corresponding holding openings.

The side walls 33, the connecting struts 35, 37, 39, 41, 43, the back panel surface 45 and the vertical ribs 47 together with the seat/reclining cushion arrangement 21, which is equipped with additional carrying and holding devices in the usual way for this purpose, form the aforementioned basket arrangement. The basket arrangement forms a stable unit in itself.

This basket arrangement is attached to the support frame already explained by the upper connecting strut 43 being mounted on the upper cross member strut 29 and the front lower connecting strut 35 resting on the lower cross member strut 31 (see Fig. 6). In this way, the basket arrangement is ultimately suspended from the support frame. A deformation of the cantilever bracket structures 11, which inevitably occurs when the seat/reclining cushion arrangement 21 is loaded with weight and is also desired in favor of seating comfort, does not lead to undesirable

As can be seen in particular from Fig. 2, flat armrest construction elements 49 are attached along the horizontal bar sections 17 and the back bar sections 19 of the cantilever bar structures 11, which run parallel to the aforementioned bar sections 17, 19 at a short distance. These armrest construction elements 19 are provided with a cushion covering in order to form the armrest cushions 27 already explained.

Regarding the sofa shown in the figures, it should also be noted that for the base bracket section 13, the swivel bracket section 15 and the horizontal bracket section 17, a Z-shape can also be provided instead of the U-shape tilted by 90° (see Fig. 6) to achieve a cantilever structure. In this case, the respective swivel bracket section 15 runs from the rear end of the base bracket section 13 to the front end of the horizontal bracket section 17, or from the front end of the base bracket section 13 to the rear end of the horizontal bracket section 17.

It should also be noted that the structure explained can also be implemented with an upholstered armchair instead of the upholstered sofa shown.

Claims (17)

1. Seating/reclining furniture with at least one seating/reclining surface ( 21 ) which is supported by at least two cantilever bracket structures ( 11 ), each cantilever bracket structure having at least one base bracket section ( 13 ), one swivel bracket section ( 15 ) and one horizontal bracket section ( 17 ),
wherein the base bracket section ( 13 ) is provided for resting substantially horizontally on a floor, wherein the pivoting bracket section ( 15 ) further connects the base bracket section and the horizontal bracket section to one another in a vertical or vertically inclined orientation, and wherein the horizontal bracket section ( 17 ) is provided for a substantially horizontal arrangement above the base bracket section,
characterized ,
that the sitting/lying surface ( 21 ) is arranged offset downwards with respect to the horizontal bar sections ( 17 ). 2. Furniture according to claim 1, characterized in that at least the underside, preferably also the upper side ( 23 ) of the sitting/lying surface ( 21 ) is arranged offset downwards with respect to the horizontal bar sections ( 17 ). 3. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the sitting/lying surface has a sitting/lying cushion arrangement ( 21 ) which is preferably arranged completely offset downwards with respect to the horizontal bar sections ( 17 ) of the cantilever bar structures ( 11 ). 4. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in
that the horizontal bar sections ( 17 ) of the cantilever bar structures ( 11 ) are designed as armrests,
wherein the horizontal bar sections are in particular provided with a sheath. 5. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in
that the horizontal bar sections ( 17 ) of the cantilever bar structures ( 11 ) are each designed as a substructure of an armrest ( 49 ) of the furniture,
wherein the armrest ( 49 ) is preferably arranged in a substantially parallel arrangement and/or at a short distance from the horizontal bar section ( 17 ) and/or is provided with a casing ( 27 ). 6. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the cantilever bracket structures ( 11 ) are connected to one another by one or more cross member struts ( 29 , 31 ). 7. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that a cross member strut ( 19 , 31) is provided on the swivel bracket sections (15 ) , on the horizontal bracket sections and/or on the upper side of the cantilever bracket structures ( 11 ), in particular on the upper ends of back bracket sections ( 19 ). 8. Furniture according to claim 6 or claim 7, characterized in that the cantilever bracket structures ( 11 ) with the cross member strut(s) ( 29 , 31 ) form a support frame to which the sitting/lying surface ( 21 ) is attached. 9. Furniture according to claim 8, characterized in that the sitting/lying surface ( 21 ) with two side walls ( 33 ) forms a basket arrangement which is fastened to the support frame. 10. Furniture according to claim 9, characterized in that the basket arrangement has at least one connecting cross strut ( 35 , 37 , 39 , 41 , 43 ) which connects the side cheeks ( 33 ) to one another, and/or a back surface ( 45 ) and/or at least one vertical rib ( 47 ) which connects a plurality of connecting cross struts to one another. 11. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that each cantilever bracket structure ( 11 ) has an at least approximately vertical back bracket section ( 19 ) which is connected at its lower end to the rear end of the horizontal bracket section ( 17 ). 12. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that a back surface ( 45 ) is provided, wherein the back surface is preferably arranged between back bar sections ( 19 ) of the cantilever bar structures ( 11 ) and/or adjoins the sitting/lying surface ( 21 ) and/or has a back cushion arrangement ( 25 ). 13. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the cantilever bracket structures ( 11 ) are arranged on the front sides of the furniture and/or parallel to one another. 14. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in
that the swivel bracket section ( 15 ) connects the base bracket section ( 13 ) and the horizontal bracket section ( 17 ) to form a tilted U-shape or a Z-shape, and/or
that the swivel bar section ( 15 ) connects the base bar section ( 13 ) and the horizontal bar section ( 17 ) in such a way that the sitting/lying surface ( 21 ) can be pivoted elastically. 15. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the swivel bracket sections ( 15 ) of the cantilever bracket structures ( 11 ) form the only support connection between the sitting/lying surface ( 21 ) and the base bracket sections ( 13 ). 16. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the cantilever bracket structures ( 11 ) are made of wood and/or metal. 17. Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the furniture is an upholstered sofa or an upholstered armchair.
