Description

Box and cutting for its production

The present invention relates to boxes for containing a plurality of articles and blanks for making the boxes.

Standard modular packaging, i.e. packaging or boxes produced in batch sizes suitable for production, are well known and are used to provide the largest possible range of boxes that can preferably be stored on a Euro pallet. Such boxes can be used universally and therefore offer welcome flexibility in terms of storage.

However, problems keep cropping up as these boxes are mostly strapped with plastic straps by the users. The packaging, which is not always used to its full capacity, leads to the lid flaps partially overlapping when strapped and, in the case of glued boxes, to the bottom glue falling inwards like a tent, i.e. the entire box "warps".

This is mainly because users do not fill the cavities, which is not necessary for many products that need to be packaged. Another problem is that many users are not prepared to tape such a box before strapping it. However, taping the lid flaps is actually unavoidable for boxes strapped with plastic tape, as if the cavity is not completely filled, it is otherwise easy to push one of the long sides of the lid down into the box and possibly steal parts of the packaged items.

Reclosing such a glued and/or strapped box after it has been opened for the first time, i.e. after removing the adhesive tape or plastic tape, is possible, for example by forcing the lid flaps to overlap each other by pushing adjacent lid flaps over each other, but such a "technique" is cumbersome and laborious and the material of the box lid is damaged in the process.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to improve a box of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that the box formed from the blank is provided with means for closing the lid, which in particular make it impossible to press in a longitudinal side of the lid without damaging the box lid, and in this respect provide protection against theft.

To achieve the object, according to one aspect of the present invention, a box is proposed which comprises four side wall panels, each of which is hingedly connected to a lid flap or top wall panel and a bottom wall panel. The top and bottom wall panels are folded inwards and partially overlap one another to form the lid and bottom of the box. Means for closing the lid by means of cooperating closure tabs and openings are provided in the top wall panels of the box. The closure tabs are formed in two of the top wall panels by means of notches punched out of them and the corresponding openings are punched out of the other top wall panels in pairs.

The lid closure according to the invention, which essentially does not change the size of the packaging, provides a theft-proof box that nevertheless allows it to be opened and closed several times and can therefore be filled and emptied several times. It is also possible to additionally glue this box.

According to an optional feature of this aspect of the invention, the top panel surfaces enclosing the closure tabs may comprise one or more score lines.

According to a further optional feature of this aspect of the invention, the openings in the pair of openings may be arcuate. Furthermore, only the outer ends of the openings in the pair of openings may be bent towards each other.

According to another optional feature, the openings may be formed in the narrower ceiling panels and the tabs may be formed in the wider ceiling panels. Furthermore, the length of the ceiling panels having the openings may be such that the edges abut one another when the lid is closed. The ceiling panels may also be beveled at the abutting edges.

According to another optional feature of this aspect of the invention, gripping cutouts may further be provided in the narrower side wall surfaces.

According to a further optional feature of this aspect of the invention, two of the base panels have tabs hingedly connected thereto along score lines running at an angle of approximately 45°, which are attached to the respective adjacent base panel, so that the empty box can be folded into a flat shape when the base panels are folded inwards. The base panels further comprise flaps hingedly connected thereto, which are designed such that they interlock in the formed box and thus contribute to locking the base across the diagonal. By changing the base bonding, i.e. locking across the diagonal, it is achieved that the box no longer stands inwards in the base like a tent. In addition, the edges of the flaps can coincide with the outer edge of the base panel on one side and be curved on the side facing the tab.

Optionally, two of the bottom wall surfaces may be bevelled on both sides from the score line between the side and bottom wall surfaces, with the

The side edges facing the tabs can preferably be bevelled at an angle of between 70° and 85° and the opposite side edges can preferably be bevelled at an angle of approximately 45°. Furthermore, the bottom wall surfaces connected to the tabs can be bevelled on the side edges opposite the tabs starting from the score line, preferably at an angle of between 85° and 95°.

According to a further optional feature of this aspect of the invention, two of the base panels include tabs on one side hinged thereto along score lines extending at an angle of approximately 45° and are bevelled from a score line on the other side. The tabs are attached to the adjacent base panel so that the empty carton can be folded into a flat shape along score lines with the base panels folded inward. Furthermore, a third base panel includes at least two bevelled score lines on the side facing the tab. A fourth base panel is bevelled from the score line on the side facing the tab and has a cutout along its outer edge.

Optionally, the side edges of the bottom wall panels opposite the tabs are bevelled at an angle of approximately 45° and the side of the fourth bottom wall panel facing the tab is bevelled at an angle between 70° and 85°.

According to a still further optional feature of this aspect of the invention, two of the bottom panels are bevelled in a central portion at the side edges facing an intermediate third bottom panel. Furthermore, a region is punched out in a central region of the outer edge of the third bottom panel so that at least two lateral tabs are provided. A fourth bottom panel is bevelled in a central portion at both side edges, the tab formed by the outer vertical portion of the side edges being designed to be engaged by the opening provided by the other bottom panels. Optionally, the third bottom panel comprises a central tab of convex shape.

According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided a blank for a box for containing a plurality of articles, comprising four side wall panels hinged together and top wall panels and bottom wall panels hinged thereto, each of which projects outwardly from the side wall panels and, in the formed box, is folded inwardly so as to partially overlap one another to form the lid and bottom of the box, and an end flap hinged to one of the outer side wall panels. Means are provided in the top wall panels for closing the lid by cooperating locking flaps and openings. The locking flaps are formed in two of the top wall panels by means of notches punched therefrom and the corresponding openings are punched in pairs from the other top wall panels.

According to an optional feature of this second aspect of the invention, two of the base panels include tabs hingedly connected to the base panels along score lines extending at an angle of approximately 45° and adapted to be secured to the respective adjacent base panel. The base panels include hingedly connected flaps adapted to interlock within the formed carton and thus assist in locking the base diagonally.

According to a further optional feature of this second aspect of the invention, two of the bottom panels on one side include tabs hinged thereto along score lines extending at an angle of approximately 45° and adapted to be secured to the respective adjacent bottom panel. On the other side, the bottom panels are bevelled from a score line. Furthermore, a third bottom panel comprises at least two bevelled score lines on the side facing the tab. A fourth bottom panel is bevelled from the score line on the side facing the tab and has a cutout along its outer edge.

According to a still further optional feature of this aspect of the invention, two of the bottom panels are bevelled at the side edges facing an intermediate third bottom panel in a central portion. Furthermore, a region is punched out in a central region of the outer edge of the third bottom panel to provide at least two lateral tabs. A fourth bottom panel is bevelled at both side edges in a central portion, the tab formed by the outer vertical portion of the side edges being designed to be engaged by the opening of the formed box provided by the other bottom panels.

Figures 1, 2A, 2B and 3 show a preferred embodiment of a blank or box of the present invention. In Figure 1 there can be seen a box blank 1 which is made of cardboard or corresponding foldable sheet material and which has four side wall panels 12, 13, 14 and 15 which, after folding the blank, form the four side walls of a box.

Adjacent to the outer side wall panel 15 there is provided an end flap 16 which is hingedly connected thereto and which, during the formation of the box, is brought into overlap with the side wall panel 12 at the opposite end of the blank before being glued or otherwise secured to that side wall panel. It should be noted that the end flap 16 may also be hingedly connected to another outer side wall panel.

Provided integrally with each of the side wall panels 12, 13, 14 and 15 forming the side walls of the box are top wall panels 17a, 17b, 18a and 18b and bottom wall panels 19a, 19b, 20a and 20b, each projecting outwardly from the corresponding side wall panel and being folded inwardly in the formed box to form the lid and the bottom of the box respectively. The side wall panels are hingedly connected to one another and to the corresponding bottom and top wall panels by the score lines 25, 26, 42, 43, 44 and 45 shown in dashed lines in Figure 1.

According to the invention, closure means are provided for closing the lid in the formed box by securing opposite top wall panels in the respective adjacent top wall panels by means of a plurality of cooperating closure tabs and corresponding slot-shaped openings. In particular, the openings may be formed in the narrower top wall panels and the tabs in the wider top wall panels.

The closure tabs 24 shown in Figure 1 are formed in the top wall surfaces 18a, 18b by means of notches 23, wherein the notches 23 are punched out of the top wall surfaces 18a, 18b and wherein the length of the notches is such that the closure tabs 24, when the lid is closed, extend so far into the openings 22 in the top wall surfaces 17a,

17b can be introduced such that the top wall surfaces 18a, 18b lie in a plane with the top wall surfaces 17a, 17b and substantially perpendicular to the side walls of the box.

The corresponding slot-shaped openings 22 are provided in pairs in the top wall surfaces 17a, 17b by corresponding punchings, with the end of the openings 22 facing the side wall surfaces 12, 14 adjacent to the score line 25. In particular, the ends of the openings 22 facing away from the respective side wall surface in the corresponding pair of openings can be bent towards each other as shown in Figure 1. It is pointed out that the openings 22 can also be designed straight or as arches or in another way that is suitable for effectively engaging the closure tabs of the adjacent top wall surfaces.

The lid closure according to the invention, which leaves the cut size of the box essentially unchanged, provides a theft-proof box that can also be filled and emptied multiple times, since it can easily be closed and reopened multiple times using the closure means according to the invention. It is not necessary for adjacent lid flaps to overlap each other for closing and for the lid flaps to be excessively bent or twisted for this purpose. Furthermore, if the box is not completely filled and the lid flaps are not glued, it is considerably more difficult, if not completely impossible, to push the box lid in without damaging it, for example in order to steal parts of the packaged objects. The box closed according to the invention also makes it more difficult for the lid flaps to move relative to each other when the hollow spaces are not filled, and thus for the entire box to "warp" when strapping. Moreover, with the lid closure according to the invention, it is still possible to glue the box shut.

Preferably, one or more notch lines 46 running parallel to the notch line 25 are provided in the ceiling wall surfaces 18a, 18b to facilitate the insertion of the locking tabs

24 into the openings 22 when closing the lid of the box or to facilitate the removal of the closure tabs from the openings.

The top wall surfaces 17a, 17b, 18a, 18b can each be bevelled at the edges where they meet. Furthermore, the length of the top wall surfaces 17a and 17b having the openings 22 can be such that their edges meet when the lid is closed. A lid closed in this way makes it even more difficult to reach into the box or to steal objects located therein and thus provides an even more effective anti-theft protection.

In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 1, the bottom wall surfaces 19a, 19b, which are hingedly connected to the side wall surfaces 12 and 14, are bevelled on both sides starting from the score line 26, with the side edges 33a, 33b of the bottom wall surfaces 19a, 19b facing the tabs 21a, 21b being less bevelled than the side edges 32a, 32b. The former are preferably bevelled at an angle between 70° and 85°, the latter at an angle of approximately 45° (each starting from the score line 26).

Furthermore, the bottom wall surfaces 20a, 20b connected to the tabs 21a, 21b are bevelled at the side edge 34a or 34b opposite the tabs, starting from the score line 26, preferably at an angle between 85° and 95°.

The bottom wall panels 20a, 20b include flaps 21a and 21b hinged thereto by score lines 28a, 28b extending at an angle of approximately 45°, which serve to fold the box along the score lines 42 and 44 or 28a and 28b into a flat folded form when the box is empty, the bottom wall panels 19a, 19b, 20a, 20b then being folded inward and the top wall panels 17a, 17b, 18a, 18b extending upwardly away from the side wall panels.

To produce the box, the tabs 21a, 21b are made to overlap the bottom wall surfaces 19a, 19b, whereby for this purpose the bottom wall surfaces 19a, 19b, 20a, 20b are folded into the interior of the box to be formed. The tabs 21a,

21b provide part of the underside of the box bottom and are glued or otherwise attached to the bottom wall panels 19a, 19b on the outside thereof before the box is erected. After the panels have been glued, the edges 30a, 30b of the tabs 21a, 21b are each arranged parallel to a partial section of the score line 26 and the edges 31a, 31b are each approximately parallel to the edges 32a, 32b of the bottom wall panels 19a, 19b.

Furthermore, the bottom wall panels 20a, 20b comprise flaps 29a, 29b connected thereto for locking the bottom across the diagonal, as shown in Figures 2A and 3. The articulated connection of the bottom wall panels 20a, 20b to the flaps 29a, 29b provided by the score lines 27a, 27b facilitates the positioning of the bottom wall panels to form a bottom wall when setting up the box, which is initially folded flat along score lines 42, 44 or 28a, 28b. The flaps 29a, 29b are designed in such a way that when folded around the score lines 27a, 27b running approximately in the diagonal of the formed box, they engage or hook into one another, whereby the score lines coincide. In particular, the flaps 29a, 29b can be curved on the side facing the tab 21a or 21b.

By changing the adhesive on the bottom, the box is no longer positioned inwards like a tent in the bottom due to a diagonal locking mechanism.

Figure 4 shows an alternative embodiment of a blank of a carton of the present invention. This alternative embodiment corresponds to the preferred embodiment shown in Figures 1, 2A, 2B and 3 with the exception of the design of the bottom or the bottom panels provided to form it. In order to avoid redundancy and unnecessary repetition, the differences between these embodiments are essentially described below. Moreover, features corresponding to those of the previous embodiment are designated by the same two-digit reference numeral preceded by the numeral "2". For example, the four side panel panels and the top panel panels of the alternative embodiment shown in Figure 4 are designated by the reference numerals 212, 213, 214 and 215 and 217a, 217b, 218a and 218b, respectively.

The side wall panels 212, 213, 214 and 215 of the box blank 2 are connected to top wall panels 217a, 217b, 218a and 218b and bottom wall panels 250a, 250b, 251a and 251b, each of which projects outwardly from the corresponding side wall panel and is folded inwardly in the formed box. The side wall panels are hingedly connected to one another and to the corresponding bottom and top wall panels via score lines 225,226,242, 243,244 and 245.

Closure means for closing the lid in the formed box are provided in the top wall surfaces by means of a plurality of cooperating closure tabs 224 and corresponding pairs of openings 222 punched out of the top wall surfaces 217a, 217b, the closure tabs 224 shown in Figure 4 being formed in the top wall surfaces 218a, 218b by means of notches 223 punched out therefrom and the openings 222 being designed as elongated slots with an arcuate end.

In the alternative embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 4, the base is formed from four base wall surfaces 250a, 250b, 251a and 251b, with the base wall surface 251a providing a smooth base in the resulting box. Such a design of the base is particularly advantageous when packaging paper.

The bottom wall surfaces 250a, 250b shown in Figure 4 are beveled on one side starting from the score line 226, preferably at an angle of approximately 45°. The other side of the bottom wall surface 250a, 250b facing the bottom wall surface 251a or 251b has a tab 252a, 252b which is hingedly connected to the bottom wall surface 250a or 250b via a score line 262a or 262b running at an angle of approximately 45°. The tabs 252a and 252b serve to fold the carton along the score lines 242 and 244 and 262a and 262b, respectively, into a flat folded configuration when the carton is empty, with the bottom wall panels 250a, 250b, 251a, 251b then folded inwardly and the top wall panels 217a, 217b, 218a, 218b extending upwardly away from the side wall panels.

To produce the box, the tabs 252a, 252b are made to overlap the bottom wall surfaces 251a, 251b, for which purpose the bottom wall surfaces 250a, 250b, 251a, 251b are folded into the interior of the box to be formed, and glued to the bottom wall surfaces 251a, 251b on the outside thereof before the box is erected or attached to it in another way. After the surfaces have been glued, the edges 263a, 263b of the tabs 252a, 252b are each arranged parallel to a partial section of the score line 226.

Furthermore, the bottom panel 251a comprises at least two obliquely extending score lines 261 on the side edge opposite the tab 252a, which extend from the region of the side edge adjacent to the score line 226. These score lines serve to enable the box to be folded into a flat folded form along the score lines 242 and 244 or 262a and 262b.

Furthermore, the side edge 264 of the bottom wall surface 251b facing the tab 252b is beveled from the score line 226, preferably at an angle between 70° and 85°. The bottom wall surface 251b also has a cutout 265 along its outer edge.

Figures 5 and 6 show a further alternative embodiment of a blank or a box of the present invention. This alternative embodiment corresponds to the preferred embodiment shown in Figures 1, 2A, 2B and 3 with the exception of the design of the bottom wall panels provided to form the bottom. Therefore, essentially only the differences between these embodiments are described below. Features which correspond to those of the previous embodiment are designated with the same two-digit reference numeral, but preceded by the numeral "3".

In the box blank 3 shown in Figure 5, an end flap 316 is shown adjacent to the side wall surface 314 and is hingedly connected thereto. The end flap 316 could, however, also be connected to another end side wall surface.

The side wall panels 312, 313, 314, 315 are hingedly connected to one another and to corresponding bottom wall panels 350a, 350b, 351a, 351b and ceiling wall panels 317a, 317b, 318a, 318b via score lines 325, 326, 361, 362, 363 and 364. In particular, the ceiling wall panels 318a and 318b have beveled edges in the blank shown in Figure 5.

According to the invention, closure means for closing the lid are provided in the formed box by a plurality of cooperating closure tabs 324 and corresponding openings 322, wherein the closure tabs 324 shown in Figure 5 are formed in the top wall surfaces 318a, 318b by means of notches 323 punched out therefrom and the openings 322 are designed as arcuate slots, wherein the ends of the openings pointing away from the side wall surfaces each point inwards in pairs, i.e. towards each other.

In the alternative embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 5, the bottom is formed from four bottom wall panels 350a, 350b, 351a and 351b, wherein the bottom wall panels interlock and partially overlap each other in the formed box.

The bottom wall panels 350a and 350b hinged to the side wall panels 312 and 314 are formed symmetrically with respect to the intermediate bottom wall panel 351a, the side edges 353a and 353b of these bottom wall panels being bevelled in a central portion. The outer vertical portion of the side edges 353a, 353b of the bottom wall panels 350a, 350b provide tabs which cooperate with the bottom wall panel 351a to provide a type of slot for a tab provided by the bottom wall panel 351b.

The bottom wall surface 351a shown in Figure 5 has a region punched out in a central region of its outer edge, whereby two tabs with straight side edges are provided on the sides. Preferably, the punched out region is arcuate, so that a further central tab 352 of convex shape is provided, which partially overlaps the tabs provided by the bottom wall surfaces 350a, 350b.

Furthermore, a further tab is formed in the bottom wall surface 351b by means of side edges 354 and 355 which are bevelled in a central section. The length of the outer vertical section of the side edges 354, 355 is such that the tab provided by this can be inserted into the opening provided by the bottom wall surfaces 350a, 350b and 351a when the bottom is formed so that the bottom wall surfaces 350a, 350b, 351a and 351b engage or hook into one another and partially overlap one another so that in the formed bottom they are present in a plane substantially perpendicular to the side walls of the box.

To form this alternative embodiment of the carton, the end flap 316 is overlapped and glued or otherwise secured to the side wall panel 315. The carton may be folded along the score lines 361 and 363 or 362 and 364 with the bottom and top wall panels facing outward and thus in a flat configuration prior to erection.

After erecting the box, first the bottom panel 351a and then the bottom panels 350a and 350b are folded into the interior of the box at the score line 326. The bottom of the box is closed by inserting the bottom panel 351b into the opening provided by the bottom panels 350a, 350b and 351a, whereby the bottom panels can be bent slightly into the interior of the box until the tab provided by the bottom panel 351b is engaged by the bottom panel 351a, preferably by a central, convex-shaped tab.

Furthermore, in the blank shown in Figure 5 for forming the box according to the invention, handle punchings 371 are provided in the side wall surfaces 312 and 314, as are usually used in boxes of this type.

Claims (18)

1. A box for accommodating a plurality of objects, the box comprising four side wall panels ( 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 ) and top wall panels ( 17a , 17b , 18a , 18b ) and bottom wall panels ( 19a , 19b , 20a , 20b ) which are each hingedly connected thereto, the top wall panels and bottom wall panels being folded inwards so that they partially overlap one another to form the lid and the bottom of the box, characterized in that means for closing the lid by means of cooperating closure tabs ( 24 ) and openings ( 22 ) are provided in the top wall panels ( 17a , 17b , 18a , 18b ), the closure tabs ( 24 ) being formed in two of the top wall panels ( 18a , 18b ) by means of notches ( 23 ) punched out therefrom, and the corresponding openings ( 22 ) are punched out in pairs from the other ceiling wall surfaces ( 17 a, 17 b). 2. A box according to claim 1, wherein the top wall surfaces ( 18a , 18b ) enclosing the closure tabs ( 24 ) comprise one or more score lines ( 46 ). 3. A box according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the openings ( 22 ) in the pair of openings are arcuate. 4. A box according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the outer ends of the openings ( 22 ) in the pair of openings are bent towards each other. 5. A box according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the openings ( 22 ) are formed in the narrower top wall panels and the closure tabs ( 24 ) are formed in the wider top wall panels. 6. A box according to any preceding claim, wherein the length of the top wall surfaces ( 17a , 17b ) having the openings ( 22 ) is such that the edges abut one another when the lid is closed. 7. A box according to any preceding claim, wherein at least two of the top wall panels ( 17a , 17b , 18a , 18b ) are bevelled at their meeting edges. 8. A box according to any preceding claim, further comprising handle punches ( 371 ) provided in the narrower side wall surfaces. 9. A box according to any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein two of the bottom panels ( 20 a, 20 b) include tabs ( 21 a, 21 b) which are hingedly connected to the bottom panels ( 20 a, 20 b) along score lines ( 28 a, 28 b) extending at an angle of approximately 45° and which are attached to the respective adjacent bottom panel ( 19 a, 19 b) so that the empty box can be folded into a flat shape along score lines ( 42 , 44 ; 28 a, 28 b) with the bottom panels ( 19 a, 19 b, 20 a, 20 b) folded inwards, wherein the bottom panels ( 20 a, 20 b) further comprise flaps ( 29 a, 29 b) hingedly connected thereto for locking the bottom across the diagonal, wherein the Flaps ( 29 a, 29 b) are designed such that they interlock in the formed box. 10. A box according to claim 9, wherein two of the bottom wall panels ( 19a , 19b ) are bevelled on both sides from a score line ( 26 ), wherein side edges ( 33a , 33b ) facing the tabs ( 21a , 21b ) are bevelled at an angle between 70° and 85°, and opposite side edges ( 32a , 32b ) are bevelled at an angle of approximately 45°, and wherein the bottom wall panels ( 20a , 20b ) connected to the tabs ( 21a , 21b ) are bevelled at side edges (34a, 34b) opposite the tabs at an angle between 85° and 95° from the score line ( 26 ). 11. A box according to any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein two of the bottom panels ( 250 a, 250 b) include tabs ( 252 a, 252 b) on one side which are hingedly connected to the bottom panels ( 250 a, 250 b) along score lines ( 262 a, 262 b) extending at an angle of approximately 45° and which are attached to the respective adjacent bottom panel ( 251 a, 251 b) so that the empty box can be folded into a flat shape along score lines ( 242 , 244 ; 262 a, 262 b) with the bottom panels ( 250 a, 250 b, 251 a, 251 b) folded inwards, and are bevelled on the other side starting from a score line ( 226 ), wherein a third bottom panel ( 251 a) comprises at least two obliquely extending score lines ( 261 ) on the side facing the tab ( 252 a), and wherein a fourth bottom wall surface ( 251 b) on the side facing the tab ( 252 b) is bevelled starting from the score line ( 226 ) and has a punched-out portion ( 265 ) along the outer edge. 12. A box according to claim 11, wherein the side edges of the bottom wall panels ( 250a , 250b ) opposite the tabs ( 252a , 252b ) are bevelled at an angle of approximately 45° and the side edge ( 264 ) of the fourth bottom wall panel ( 251b ) facing the tab ( 252b ) is bevelled at an angle between 70° and 85°. 13. A box according to any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein two of the bottom wall panels ( 250a , 250b ) are bevelled in a central portion at the side edges ( 353a , 353b ) facing an intermediate third bottom wall panel ( 251a ), wherein a region is punched out in a central portion of the outer edge of the third bottom wall panel ( 251a ) so that at least two lateral tabs are provided, and wherein a fourth bottom wall panel ( 351b ) is bevelled in a central portion at both side edges ( 354 , 355 ), wherein the tab formed by the outer vertical portion of the side edges ( 354 , 355 ) is designed such that it is engaged by the opening provided by the other bottom wall panels ( 250a , 250b , 251a ). 14. A carton according to claim 13, wherein the third bottom panel ( 251a ) further comprises a central tab ( 352 ) having a convex shape. 15. Blank for a box for accommodating a plurality of objects, the blank comprising four side wall panels ( 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 ) which are hinged to one another and top wall panels ( 17a , 17b , 18a , 18b ) and bottom wall panels ( 19a , 19b , 20a , 20b ) which are each hinged to these, which each project outwards from the side wall panels and are folded inwards in the formed box so that they partially overlap one another to form the lid and bottom of the box, as well as an end flap ( 16 ) which is hinged to one of the outer side wall panels, characterized in that means for closing the lid by means of cooperating closure flaps ( 24 ) and openings ( 22 ) are provided in the top wall panels ( 17a , 17b , 18a , 18b ), wherein the closure tabs ( 24 ) are formed in two of the ceiling wall surfaces ( 18a , 18b ) by means of notches ( 23 ) punched out therefrom, and wherein the corresponding openings ( 22 ) are punched out in pairs from the other ceiling wall surfaces ( 17a , 17b ). 16. A blank according to claim 15, wherein two bottom panels ( 20a , 20b ) include tabs ( 21a , 21b ) hingedly connected to the bottom panels ( 20a , 20b ) along score lines ( 28a , 28b ) extending at an angle of approximately 45° and adapted to be attached to the respective adjacent bottom panel ( 19a , 19b ), the bottom panels ( 20a , 20b ) further comprising flaps ( 29a , 29b ) hingedly connected thereto for locking the bottom across the diagonal, the flaps ( 29a , 29b ) being designed to interlock in the formed carton. 17. A blank according to claim 15, wherein two of the bottom wall panels ( 250 a, 250 b) include tabs ( 252 a, 252 b) on one side which are hingedly connected to the bottom wall panels ( 250 a, 250 b) along score lines ( 262 a, 262 b) running at an angle of approximately 45° and which are adapted to be attached to the respective adjacent bottom wall panel ( 251 a, 251 b), and are bevelled on the other side from a score line ( 226 ), wherein a third bottom wall panel ( 251 a) comprises at least two bevelled score lines ( 261 ) on the side facing the tab ( 252 a), and wherein a fourth bottom wall panel ( 251 b) on the side facing the tab ( 252 b) is bevelled from the score line ( 226 ) and has a cutout ( 265 ) along the outer edge. 18. A blank according to claim 15, wherein two of the bottom wall panels ( 250a , 250b ) are bevelled in a central section at the side edges ( 353a , 353b ) facing an intermediate third bottom wall panel ( 251a ), wherein a region is punched out in a central region of the outer edge of the third bottom wall panel ( 251a ) to provide at least two lateral tabs, and wherein a fourth bottom wall panel ( 351b ) is bevelled in a central section at both side edges ( 354 , 355 ), wherein the tab formed by the outer vertical portion of the side edges ( 354 , 355 ) is designed such that it is engaged by the opening of the formed box provided by the other bottom wall panels ( 250a , 250b , 251a ).
