Cuboid-shaped folding box and cut for it

The invention relates to a cuboid-shaped folding box according to the preamble of claim 1 and a punched blank therefor according to the preamble of claim 9.

Such cuboid-shaped folding boxes are known, for example, as so-called moving boxes. They are delivered to the user in the form of a blank in a flat state, who then erects the folding box manually, whereby by folding over the bottom closure flaps a folding box with a closed bottom is obtained, which is often reinforced with additional aids such as adhesive tape, metal staples, etc.

The base construction of such folding boxes is particularly important for their load-bearing capacity. For example, so-called envelope bases are known, which have proven themselves but whose load-bearing capacity is limited, although the latter naturally also depends on the material used for the folding box, i.e. which type or quality of corrugated cardboard is used.

The object of the invention is therefore to propose a cuboid-shaped folding box and its die-cutting, the base construction of which can be easily produced without additional auxiliary

medium to be designed to be resealable, whereby the load-bearing capacity of the floor construction should be significantly higher than the state of the art or, in the case of the use of weaker and therefore cheaper types of corrugated cardboard, should remain unchanged.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the features contained in the characterizing part of claim 1 and claim 9, wherein expedient further developments of the invention are characterized by the features specified in the subclaims.

According to the invention, in a cuboid-shaped folding box with four bottom closure flaps, two opposing closure flaps have bendable insertion tabs at their free ends, which, when the bottom closure is closed, engage in slots designed according to the shape and position of the insertion tabs and encompass them inside the box, with these slots being provided in the other two opposing bottom closure flaps. Such a closure mechanism advantageously holds itself in place, so that additional aids such as adhesive tape or metal clips are not required here. Furthermore, the folding technique resulting from this construction enables the user to erect a folding box quickly and easily. "Incorrect" assembly, which could lead to a limited load-bearing capacity, is thus almost impossible. Finally, this closure base is designed in such a way that the folding box can be easily unfolded again once it has been erected and laid flat on the floor again. The flat punched blank can therefore be used several times and stored in the meantime in a space-saving flat state.

A special locking of the bottom closure is possible because the bottom closure flaps provided on the front side wall and the rear side wall are each hinged to a fold line that runs offset inwards in the area between the slots. This pulls the middle part of the long sides slightly inwards and the folding box, when viewed from below, takes on a kind of waist. This in turn has the advantageous consequence that the tuck-in flaps, when they grip the slots inside the box, i.e. are pressed against the bottom from the inside.

are additionally fixed by the friction on the side walls. This measure gives the closure base additional support and prevents the tuck-in tabs from accidentally slipping out and the closure base from becoming inoperable. It also makes it easier to fill the folding box with small parts, as these can no longer get under the tuck-in tab ends that may protrude upwards.

However, it has proven useful for the bottom closure flaps hinged to the right and left side walls to each have two bendable tuck-in tabs at their free ends, which have the shape of a triangle, the base line of which coincides with a fold line over which the tuck-in tabs are hinged to the bottom closure flaps. It is expedient for the tuck-in tabs to have a bevelled or blunt tip at their free end, since if the bottom closure flaps hinged to the front and rear side walls have slots that are closed by a movable tongue, these can penetrate such slots more easily. However, if the tuck-in tabs are in the shape of a triangle with a pronounced tip, a point load occurs when the slots are pierced, which can lead to deformation of the tuck-in tab tips, particularly in the case of relatively weak types of cardboard, so that an tuck-in tab shape of this type can only be pushed into the slots with difficulty. It is therefore advisable for the tuck-in tabs to have a blunt tip at their free end, as they then no longer touch the slots at a point but along their entire slope. The increased contact surface distributes the pressure load over the entire slope, which can prevent the tips of the tuck-in tabs from bending or deforming when the box base is put together. Finally, it is advisable for the base closure flap, which is hinged to the front and rear side walls, to be wider than half the width and smaller than the entire width of the folding box. This achieves a certain degree of overlap of the base construction.

The measures according to the invention not only allow the base element of a folding box to be folded up quickly and easily, but also provide a base element with increased stability, whereby the base of the folding box

the more load-bearing it becomes. This is because the contents of the folding box press directly onto the triangles that are placed flat on the bottom of the box and hold them in place. The heavier the contents, the more pressure this puts on the tabs on the bottom, preventing them from slipping out. This means that the load-bearing capacity of the bottom tends to increase with increasing weight of the contents, which is very important. Due to the offset middle section as a result of the grooving inwards on the long side in the middle section, the middle section is slightly narrower than the width in the corner area of the folding box. This lowered middle section levels out the edges and creates an almost flat support surface in the area of the bottom.

According to claim 9, a punched blank is provided for producing a cuboid-shaped folding box that can be closed multiple times, and in particular this has a front side wall with a connecting flap, a rear side wall, a right side wall connecting the front side wall and the rear side wall, and a left side wall, as well as four base closure flaps and two closure flaps for the lid, as well as two reinforcing flaps provided between the latter, whereby this punched blank can consist of cardboard, paperboard or another suitable material.

The middle part of this die-cut is made up of the rear side wall with a connecting tab as a corner tab, the right side wall, the front side wall and the left side wall, which are all connected to one another via fold lines arranged one behind the other in a row. On the rear side wall or the front side wall, bottom closure flaps are hinged on one side via fold lines and on the other opposite side via fold lines, whereby bottom closure flaps are also provided on the right side wall or the left side wall via fold lines and reinforcing flaps on the opposite side via fold lines.

In the die-cut blank, there are also slots for manual access in both the right and left side walls as well as in the reinforcement tabs that connect to the side walls. When erecting the folding box, the

Reinforcing flaps are simply folded inwards by 90° so that they rest against the inside of the two right and left side walls, which doubles the wall thickness and thus also reinforces the carrying handle.

To allow the insertion tabs to engage, two slots arranged in mirror images of each other are provided in the bottom closure flaps, which run at an acute angle to the fold line of the bottom closure flaps and extend from this fold line, with these fold lines being offset inwards into the box in the area between the slots. The advantages of this offset arrangement of these fold lines have already been described at the beginning, which is why reference is made to them. Furthermore, the slots are closed, in each case via a movable tongue hinged to a fold line.

The closure flaps advantageously have a V-shaped recess in the middle at the free end, the base of which is also slotted, to a depth of half the width of the right or left side wall. With a V-shaped recess designed in this way, the two closure flaps can be interlocked in the area of these V-shaped recesses when the folding box is closed, which keeps the closure flaps in their position.

The bottom closure flaps, which are hinged to the right and left side walls, each have two insertion tabs at their free ends that can be bent along fold lines. These tabs are bevelled at their free ends and form a kind of blunt triangle at the other end, so that they can slide more easily, almost like a knife, into the slots provided in the other bottom closure flaps.

Both the bottom closure flaps and the closure flaps and reinforcement flaps are separated from each other by a punch cut, with the bottom closure flaps being wider than half the width and smaller than the entire width of the folding box. This achieves a sufficient degree of overlap.

The cuboid-shaped folding box shown in Fig. A has a rectangular longitudinal cross-section and is shown in perspective with the bottom area open and upside down.

The bottom closure is formed by four bottom closure flaps 1; 1' and 2; 2', with the bottom closure flap 1 being hinged to a front side wall 4 via a fold line 3 and the bottom closure flap Γ being hinged to a rear side wall 4' via a fold line 3'. The front side wall 4 is connected to the rear side wall 4' on the right side with a right side wall 5 and on the left side with a left side wall 5', with the position of the side walls being described here as if the folding box were in its position of use, i.e. with the bottom construction standing on the floor (as in Fig. D and E). The fold lines are also preferably formed by grooves.

The bottom closure flaps 2 and 2' are hinged to the right and left side walls 5 and 5' respectively via fold lines 6 and 6' respectively and have two bendable insertion tabs 7; 7' and 8; 8' respectively at their free ends. The bending of the insertion tabs 7; 7' and 8; 8' respectively is in turn made possible by fold lines 9 and 9' respectively (Fig. B).

In the bottom closure flaps 1 and 2 hinged to the front and rear side walls 4 and 4', respectively, slots 10 and 10' and 11 and 11' are provided for receiving the insertion tabs 7; 7' and 8; 8', respectively, wherein the slots 10 and 10' and 11 and 11' are arranged in mirror image to each other and each enclose an acute angle with the fold line 3 and 3' from which they also originate.

Elongated holes 13; 13' and 14; 14' are provided in both the right and left side walls 5 and 5' and in the reinforcing tabs 12 and 12' adjacent to them, whereby by folding the reinforcing tabs 12 and 12' inwards by 90°, these can be made to overlap and thus also form reinforced handles for the folding box. It can also be useful to provide the elongated holes 13; 13' with a fold-out tongue that is folded around the reinforced handle so that it is easier to grip.

Finally, the folding box shown in Fig. A also has closure flaps 15 and 15' hinged to the front and rear side walls 4 and 4', respectively, which have a V-shaped recess 16 and 16', respectively, each with a notch 31 (Fig. F) at their free ends.

The cuboid-shaped folding box according to the invention is created as follows:

Starting from a flat punched blank as shown in Fig. F, a box with a rectangular cross-section is first formed, the two bottoms of which are still open. To do this, the punched blank is connected to a corner flap 4" in a known manner by stapling or gluing to form a closed square. Then, when folding the box bottom, the two bottom closure flaps 1 and 1' are first folded inwards by 90°.

folded according to the bold arrows in Fig. A. The order of whether the bottom closure flap 1 or 1' is folded over first is irrelevant.

In Fig. B, the bottom closure flaps 1 and 1' are shown in their final position. So that they overlap when closed and thus form a closed bottom, the width of the bottom closure flaps 1 and 1' is greater than half the width of the folding box, as can be clearly seen from the top view in Fig. B.

Then the insertion flap 7 and then 7' or 8 and then 8' or both at the same time are folded by 90° around the respective fold line 9 or 9' and then inserted into the slots 10 and 11 or 10' and 11' provided by folding the bottom closure flaps 2 or 2' according to the bold arrows in Fig. B, so that they snap into place "with a click", as indicated in Fig. C by the two bold arrows. In this case, on the left side, the triangular insertion flap 8 is pushed into the slot 10 of the bottom closure flap Γ on the one hand and the insertion flap 8' is pushed into the slot 11 of the bottom closure flap 1 on the other hand. The same applies to the insertion flaps 7 and 7' of the bottom closure flap 2. The corners of the insertion flaps 7; T and 8; 8' are preferably bevelled so that it can be pushed into the slots 10; 10' and 11; 11' even easier.

The folding box is then turned over by 180° - Fig. D - and the reinforcing flaps 12 and 12' are folded inwards by 90° according to the bold arrows so that they come into contact with the two inner surfaces of the right and left side walls 5 and 5', respectively, which leads to a doubling of the wall thickness. The prefabricated and aligned handle cutouts 13 and 14 or 13' and 14' are thereby simultaneously reinforced for the carrying handle.

Then, according to Fig. E, the triangular tuck-in flaps 7 or 7' and 8 or 8' are pressed onto the inner bottom of the folding box according to the bold straight arrows. In order for these to remain in the pressed-down position, it can advantageously be provided that the fold line 3 or 3' (Fig. F) running between the slots 10 and 10' or 11 and 11' is offset inwards into the box.

is created, whereby a certain amount of friction is created between the insertion tabs 7 and 7' or 8 and 8' on the respective inside of the front side wall 4 or rear side wall 4', whereby the insertion tabs are additionally fixed in place. This particularly improves the filling of the folding box with small parts, as these can no longer get under the triangles that may be sticking out upwards. This also gives the base additional support.

Finally, the closure flaps 15 and 15' are folded inwards as shown in Fig. E and in accordance with the bold arrows there, so that a closed folding box is thus formed (not shown). At the same time, the two closure flaps 15 and 15' are slightly interlocked with one another in a known manner so that they snap into one another in the area of the V-shaped recesses 16 and 16' provided in the middle.

The punched blank shown in Fig. F in a plan view, with which a folding box according to the invention can be folded, consists in its middle part of the front side wall 4 with a corner flap 4", the right side wall 5, the rear side wall 4' and the left side wall 5', which are connected to one another in a row arranged in a straight line one behind the other via folding lines 21, 22, 23.

On the front side wall 4 or on the rear side wall 4', bottom closure flaps 1,1' are hinged on one side via fold lines 24, 25 and on the other opposite side closure flaps 15, 15' are hinged on via fold lines 26, 27, whereby on the right side wall 5 or on the left side wall 5' the bottom closure flaps 2,2' are provided via fold lines 28, 28' and on the opposite side the reinforcing flaps 12, 12' are provided via fold lines 29, 29'.

The punched blank also has elongated holes 13, 13' and 14, 14' in both the right and left side walls 5 and 5', respectively, as well as in the reinforcing tabs 12, 12' adjacent to the side walls, which, when aligned, serve as handles.

Furthermore, each bottom closure flap 2, 2' has two insertion tabs 7, 7'; 8, 8' at its free end, which are designed as a truncated triangle with chamfered corners and can be bent over fold lines 9, 9'. For the engagement of the corner tabs 7, 7'; 8, 8', grooves are provided in the bottom closure flaps 1, 2. Two slots 10, 10' and 11, IV are punched in each case, arranged in mirror images of each other, which run at an acute angle to a fold line 24 or 25 and from this fold line, each fold line 24 or 25 being arranged slightly offset inwards into the box in the area between the slots 10, 10' and 11, IV - indicated at 30 or 30' - which advantageously leads to a certain waisting of the folding box in its base area, so that the folded-over tuck-in tabs are held in the folded state of the folding box by a type of frictional engagement.

The slots 10, 10' and 11, 11' are punched in such a way that they are virtually closed by the movable tongues 17, 17' and 18, 18', respectively, although they can be bent over fold lines 19, 19' and 20, 20' so that the insertion tabs 7, 7' and 8, 8' can pass through the slots 10, 10' and 11, 11', respectively.

The closure flaps 15, 15' also each have V-shaped recesses 16, 16' at their free ends, the base of which is slotted - indicated at 31 - to a depth of half the width of the right or left side wall 5 or 5', as a result of which the closure flaps 15, 15' can be locked into one another when the folding box is closed in such a way that a flat lid surface is obtained.

Both the bottom closure flaps 1, 2, 2' and the closure flaps 15, 15' as well as the closure flaps 12, 12' are separated from one another by a punch cut, wherein the bottom closure flaps 1, 1' and 2, 2' are formed in their same width larger than half the width and smaller than the entire width of the folding box.

This cuboid-shaped folding box is primarily used as a so-called moving box, although the particularly stable base construction can of course also be used for other boxes.

Claims (18)

1. Cuboid-shaped folding box made in particular of cardboard, paperboard or the like, with a front side wall ( 4 ), a rear side wall ( 4 '), a right side wall ( 5 ) connecting them and a left side wall ( 5 '), a bottom closure formed in particular by four bottom closure flaps ( 1 , 1 '; 2 , 2 ') and optionally an upper box closure consisting of at least two flaps ( 15 , 15 '), characterized in that the bottom closure flaps ( 2 , 2 ') hinged to the right and left side walls ( 5 , 5 ') have bendable insertion tabs ( 7 , 7 '; 8 , 8 ') at their free ends, which , in the state of a closed bottom , can be inserted into slots ( 10 , 10 '; 11 , 11 ') and engage behind them in the interior of the box, wherein the slots ( 10 , 10 '; 11 , 11 ') are provided in the bottom closure flaps ( 1 , 1 ') hinged to the front and rear side walls ( 4 , 4 '). 2. Cuboid-shaped folding box according to claim 1, characterized in that the bottom closure flaps ( 1 , 1 ') provided on the front side wall ( 4 ) and on the rear side wall ( 4 ') are each hinged via a fold line ( 24 , 24 ') preferably formed by grooves, which runs offset ( 30 , 30 ') inwards into the box in the region between the slots ( 10 , 10 '; 11 , 11 '). 3. Cuboid-shaped folding box according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the bottom closure flaps ( 2 , 2 ') hinged to the right and left side walls ( 5 , 5 ') each have two bendable insertion tabs ( 7 , 7 '; 8 , 8 ') at their free ends. 4. Cuboid-shaped folding box according to claim 3, characterized in that the insertion tabs ( 7 , 7 '; 8 , 8 ') have the shape of a triangle, the base line of which coincides with a fold line ( 9 , 9 ') via which the insertion tabs ( 7 , 7 '; 8 , 8 ') are hinged to the bottom closure flaps ( 2 , 2 '). 5. Cuboid-shaped folding box according to claim 4, characterized in that the insertion tabs ( 7 , 7 '; 8 , 8 ') have a blunt tip or are slightly bevelled at their free end. 6. Cuboid-shaped folding box according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the bottom closure flaps ( 1 , 1 ') hinged to the front ( 4 ) and rear side walls ( 4 ') have the slots ( 10 , 10 ; 11 , 11 ') which are each closed by a movable tongue ( 17 , 17 '; 18 , 18 '). 7. Cuboid-shaped folding box according to claim 6, characterized in that the tongues ( 17 , 17 '; 18 , 18 ') are hinged to the bottom closure flap ( 1 , 1 ') on a longitudinal side of the slots ( 10 , 10 ; 11 , 11 ') via a respective fold line ( 19 , 19 '; 20 , 20 '). 8. Cuboid-shaped folding box according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the bottom closure flaps ( 1 , 1 ') hinged to the front and rear side walls ( 4 , 4 ') are designed to be wider than half the width and smaller than the entire width of the folding box. 9. Die-cut blank, in particular for producing a cuboid-shaped folding box that can be closed multiple times, according to at least one of claims 1-8, with a front side wall ( 4 ) with in particular a corner flap ( 4 "), a rear side wall ( 4 '), a right-hand side wall ( 5 ) connecting the front side wall (4) and the rear side wall ( 4 '), and a left-hand side wall ( 5 '), four bottom closure flaps ( 1 , 1 '; 2 , 2 ') for forming a box bottom, in particular two closure flaps ( 15 , 15 ') for forming a box lid, and in particular two reinforcing flaps ( 12 , 12 ') provided between the latter; the die-cut blank being made of cardboard, paperboard or another suitable material, the front side wall ( 4 ) with the corner flap ( 4 ") connecting the front side wall ( 4 ) and the rear side wall ( 4' ) ') connecting the right side wall ( 5 ), the rear side wall ( 4 ') and the left side wall ( 5 ') each via fold lines ( 21 ; 22 ; 23 ) are connected to one another in a row arranged in a straight line one behind the other, wherein on the front side wall or on the rear side wall ( 4 or 4 ') on the one hand the bottom closure flap ( 1 or 1 ') is hinged via a fold line ( 24 or 25 ) and on the other hand the closure tabs ( 15 or 15 ') are hinged on the opposite side via a fold line ( 26 or 27 ), wherein on the right side wall ( 5 ) or on the left side wall ( 5 ') on the one hand the bottom closure flap ( 2 or 2 ') is hinged via a fold line ( 28 or 28 ') and on the other hand the reinforcing tab ( 12 or 12 ') is hinged on the opposite side via a fold line ( 29 or 29 '). 10. Punched blank according to claim 9, characterized in that elongated holes ( 13 , 13 '; 14 , 14 ') are provided as hand grips in both the right and left side walls ( 5 , 5 ') and in the respective reinforcing tabs ( 12 , 12 ') adjacent thereto. 11. Die-cut blank according to claim 9 or 10, characterized in that in the bottom closure flaps ( 1 , 1 ') two slots ( 10 , 10 '; 11 , 11 ') are provided which are arranged in mirror image to one another and run at an acute angle to the fold line ( 24 or 25 ) and from this. 12. Die-cut blank according to claim 11, characterized in that the folding line ( 24 or 25 ) runs offset ( 30 , 30 ') inwards into the box in the region between the slots ( 10 , 10 '; 11 , 11 '). 13. Die-cut blank according to claim 12, characterized in that the slots ( 10 , 10 '; 11 , 11 ') are closed with movable tongues ( 17 , 17 '; 18 , 18 ') each hinged via a fold line ( 19 , 19 '; 20 , 20 '). 14. Punched blank according to one of claims 9-13, characterized in that in the closure flaps ( 15 , 15 ') a V-shaped recess ( 16 , 16 ') with an incision ( 31 ) is provided centrally at the free end. 15. Die-cut blank according to one of claims 9-14, characterized in that the bottom closure flaps ( 2 , 2 ') each have two insertion tabs ( 7 , 7 '; 8 , 8 ') at their free ends which can be bent over fold lines ( 9 , 9 '). 16. Punched blank according to claim 15, characterized in that the insertion tabs ( 7 , 7 '; 8 , 8 ') are each chamfered at their free end and are formed as a type of blunt triangle. 17. Punched blank according to one of claims 9-16, characterized in that both the bottom closure flaps ( 1 , 1 '; 2 , 2 ') and the closure flaps ( 15 , 15 ') and reinforcing tabs ( 12 , 12 ') are separated from one another by a punched cut. 18. Die-cut blank according to one of claims 9-17, characterized in that the bottom closure flaps ( 1 , 1 '; 2 , 2 ') are designed to be wider than half the width and smaller than the total width of the folding box.
