Handle arrangement on a pocket knife or similar

The invention relates to a handle shell arrangement on a consumer article, for example a pocket knife, a flashlight or the like, with a hard plastic core as a connecting element to the housing wall of the consumer article, which carries a soft plastic shell which supports a metal shell.

Such a handle arrangement is known from the German utility model 296 08 322.4. This document shows a pocket knife with two housing broad sides facing away from each other. Handles are clipped onto these housing walls. The clip connection to the clip projections extending from the housing wall is made by means of a hard plastic core. This core is molded with soft material, whereby the soft material underlies a metal handle.

The invention is based on the object of developing the known handle shell arrangement further. The object is achieved by the invention specified in the claims. Claim 1 essentially relates to the fact that a substantially cylindrical shell edge lies in a groove in the casing and is inserted into slots in the hard plastic core with edge sections extending between edge recesses.

This design provides an easy-to-install handle shell arrangement that also has a pleasing appearance. The slots preferably form clamping slots to hold the edge of the shell there with friction. The shell can be frictionally connected to the soft plastic thanks to this design.

In a further development of the invention it is provided that the surface of the soft plastic casing section surrounding the edge of the shell is flush with the visible surface of the shell. This is particularly advantageous if the groove is enclosed all the way around. The visible surface of the shell then lies in the form of an island in the soft material. In a preferred embodiment, the soft plastic casing section surrounding the edge of the shell is connected to the soft plastic casing section lined with the shell by webs extending through the edge recesses. The flank of the annular groove covered by the shell preferably runs diagonally upwards. The clamp seat can also have a diagonal inner flank from which clamping lugs extend which are spaced apart from the opposite flank and are undersized in relation to the edge thickness of the shell. These clamping lugs ensure that the shell is held in a form-fitting manner in the bottom area of the groove, which bottom area is formed by the hard plastic core. The body consisting of the two plastic materials is preferably manufactured using an injection molding process. For this purpose, the hard plastic core is first injected. This is placed as an insert in a second mold and then molded with soft plastic. The metal shell is then simply inserted and clamped by pressing the edge sections into the clamping slots. The handle shell arrangement is preferably assigned to a pocket knife. The outer outline contour of the handle shell arrangement is determined by the outer outline contour of the soft plastic casing 2. This soft plastic casing sits on a hard plastic core 1. The hard plastic core 1 forms a free central section which has a T-shaped cross section and is designated by the reference number 13. The hard plastic core is surrounded on its circumference by a protruding strip 15 which forms a rear tendon.

After it has been manufactured in an injection molding step, the hard plastic core is inserted as an insert into a second injection mold. There it is molded with the soft plastic shell 2. The resulting body has an edge 10 made of a soft material that engages with the strip 15. Immediately adjacent to the edge section 10, the soft material forms a flank of a groove 5 that extends into the hard core 1 and runs essentially perpendicular to the bottom surface of the hard plastic core 1. The groove is closed in a ring shape and is used to insert the essentially cylindrical shell edge 4 of a metal shell 3.

The groove 5 has an inner flank 12 which rises diagonally so that the groove tapers in a V-shape towards its bottom. The diagonally rising flank 12 is formed on the mouth side by a soft material which is associated with the soft plastic casing 2. They are formed by hard plastic in the groove base.

The outer areas 10 of the soft plastic casing are connected to the inner section of the soft plastic casing, which is covered by the metal shell 3, by webs 11. In the area of the webs, the hard plastic groove is partially filled with soft material. The webs extend through edge recesses 6 with semicircular cross sections, which are assigned to the shell edge 4.

The shell edge 4 is held in the groove 5 by clamping. The shell is slipped over the central soft plastic casing section 2, with the shell edge 4 entering the groove 5. The outer shell edge sections lie flat against the outer flank of the groove 5. When the shell is fully assembled, the soft plastic casing 2 supports the wide surface of the shell 3.

The clamping slots 8, which are located in the area of the bottom of the groove formed by the hard plastic, are formed by clamping lugs 9, which are spaced apart from one another and are spaced smaller than the outer flank section of the groove, so that the associated edge section 7 of the edge 4 must be pressed into it. Due to the elasticity of the clamping lugs 9, the shell is held in the clamped seat. The contour of the shell surface is curved and is flush with the surface 10' of the soft edge 10.

As an alternative to the clamping fit described above, the shell 3 can also be glued to the soft plastic casing 2 at least at certain points. The bonding is preferably carried out using a two-component superglue, with one component forming an activator.

Claims (10)

1. Handle shell arrangement on a utility object, e.g. pocket knife, flashlight or the like, with a hard plastic core ( 1 ) as a connecting member to the housing wall of the utility object, which carries a soft plastic casing ( 2 ) which supports a metal shell ( 3 ), characterized in that a substantially cylindrical shell edge ( 4 ) lies in a groove ( 5 ) of the casing and is inserted with edge sections ( 7) extending between edge recesses (6 ) in slots ( 8 ) of the hard plastic core ( 1 ). 2. Handle shell arrangement according to claim 1 or in particular according thereto, characterized in that the slots ( 8 ) are designed as clamping slots for holding the edge sections. 3. Handle shell arrangement according to one or more of the preceding claims or in particular according thereto, characterized in that the surface ( 10 ') of the soft plastic casing section ( 10 ) surrounding the shell edge ( 4 ) is flush with the shell visible surface. 4. Handle shell arrangement according to one or more of the preceding claims or in particular according thereto, characterized in that the soft plastic shell section ( 10 ) surrounding the shell edge ( 4 ) is connected to the soft plastic shell section ( 2 ) lining the shell by means of webs ( 11 ) extending through the edge recess ( 6 ) in a uniform material. 5. Handle shell arrangement according to one or more of the preceding claims or in particular according thereto, characterized in that the flank ( 12 ) of the annular groove ( 5 ) covered by the shell rises obliquely. 6. Handle shell arrangement according to one or more of the preceding claims or in particular according thereto, characterized in that the slot ( 8 ) has an inclined inner surface from which clamping lugs ( 9 ) extend which are spaced apart from the opposite flank and are undersized in relation to the edge thickness of the shell. 7. Handle shell arrangement according to one or more of the preceding claims or in particular according thereto, characterized in that the soft casing ( 2 ) is injection-molded around the hard plastic core ( 1 ) manufactured as an insert. 8. Handle shell arrangement according to one or more of the preceding claims or in particular according thereto, characterized in that the soft casing ( 2 ) is anchored in the hard core ( 1 ) in a form-fitting manner. 9. Handle shell arrangement according to one or more of the preceding claims or in particular according thereto, characterized in that the slot ( 8 ) is assigned to the groove bottom area consisting of plastic. 10. Handle shell arrangement according to one or more of the preceding claims or in particular according thereto, characterized in that the shell, in particular in addition to the frictional holding, is glued to the soft plastic area.
