Abstract

The device for separating a paper or foil web from a roll has a support cutting edge(23) connected to a support plate(13) in such a way that the cutting channel(27) lies at least approximately in the plane of the support plate. The cutting disc(8) is movable on the boundary edge(35) of an opening in the cover(5) of the housing within which are located the paper of film rolls. The support plate is inclined at an angle forwards and forms the guide plane for the roll.

DESCRIPTION

Device for separating strips of paper and/or film from a paper or film roll

State of the art

The invention relates to a device according to the preamble of claim 1 or 2, alternatively that of claim 3. Such a device is described in EP-B-265 552.

In the device according to EP-B-265 552, two depots, each with a support plate for a paper or film roll, are provided one above the other in a housing. The housing is covered with a cover which can be removed from the housing or placed on the housing as required to feed one or both depots with a paper or film roll. The cover has an opening assigned to each depot, the upper edge of which, together with another area of the housing, forms a passage slot for the paper or film.

To cut off pieces - strips - of paper or film (plastic film, aluminum foil) that are suitable for use, cutting slides are provided on the cover - each assigned to a depot - which can be moved transversely to the direction in which the paper or film is removed. The cutting blade of each cutting slide is assigned a cutting channel that runs parallel to the longitudinal direction of the support plate and is located in a support cutting bar that, in its full extension running in the direction of removal of the paper or film, connects to the support plate of the relevant depot at a right angle downwards. The cutting channel is limited on the one hand by an edge of a support and grip area of the support cutting bar that lies in front of the cutting channel in the direction of removal of the paper or film, and on the other hand by an edge of a support area of the support cutting bar that lies behind the cutting channel in the direction of removal of the paper or film.

The known device is relatively complicated in terms of its construction and, as an inevitable consequence of the complicated construction, relatively expensive in terms of the material used to manufacture it. This particularly applies to the design of the support cutting bar in conjunction with the support plate carrying the paper or film roll; in the known device, the support cutting bar is connected to the front end of the support plate at a right angle pointing downwards. To absorb the forces that act on the support cutting bar when a web of paper or film is cut off - on the areas of the support and handle area on the one hand and the support area on the other hand that are directly adjacent to the cutting channel - and to transfer these forces to the support plate and via this to the mounting wall of the device, a number of stiffening ribs are provided that connect the back of the support cutting bar to the underside of the support plate. - In this context, it should also be noted that the known device is made of plastic and is manufactured using an injection molding process.

In addition to the disadvantages mentioned above, this device also has certain disadvantages with regard to the installation effort and its functionality, which affect the guidance of the cutting slides.

The aim of the present invention is to further improve a device of the type mentioned at the beginning in such a way that it is significantly simpler in terms of construction and that considerably less material (plastic) is required to manufacture it while maintaining at least the same stability. Furthermore, the device should also be improved in aesthetic terms in such a way that it has a more pleasing, more modern and more self-contained appearance than the known device.

Solution

To achieve the object outlined above, it is proposed to design a device of the type in question in accordance with the characterising part of claim 1; alternatively, it is proposed to design the device in accordance with the characterising part of claim 2 or 3.

Advantages

A fundamental advantage that can be achieved with the solution according to claim 1, 2 or 3 in accordance with the invention compared to the device according to EP-B-265 552 is that no stiffening ribs are required to transfer the forces absorbed by the areas of the support and handle area that delimit the cutting channel on the one hand and the support area on the other hand when cutting a web of paper or film via the support plate to the fastening wall of the device without or without significant deformation of the support cutting strip or other areas of the device. The need for such stiffening ribs is eliminated because the mentioned forces in a device according to the invention are introduced practically directly into the front end of the support plate, which in turn is supported directly or indirectly on the fastening wall.

A further advantage associated with the solution mentioned in the characterizing part of claim 1 - as in the case of the solutions according to claims 2 and 3 - is that the device according to the invention can be made shorter and made with less material than the known device, depending on the extent of the support and grip area of the support cutting bar in the direction of removal of the paper or film and the number of depots for paper or film rolls contained therein; this is because the support and grip area of the support cutting bar in the case of the invention is above the level of the support plate and not below it. In addition, the grip area that is directed inwards makes it much easier to grip the end of the film for pulling it up.

Finally, the fact that the support and handle area of the support cutting bar rises - at least substantially - above the level of the support plate results in the advantage or the possibility of using this part of the support cutting bar at the same time as a cross bar holding the paper or film roll; this eliminates the need for the cross bar provided separately for this purpose on the support plate in the known device.

A further possible improvement of the device in question, in addition to the advantages mentioned above, arises within the scope of claim 2 in that the cutting slide, which is slidably guided on the cover of the device for cutting off a web of paper or film, is not guided in a guide provided separately in the cover as in the known device, but is guided directly on the upper boundary edge of the opening assigned to the depot. Various solutions are possible in detail for this; the preferred solution according to claims 14 and 15 is already mentioned at this point.

Finally, in addition to the advantages mentioned for the embodiment according to claim 1, a further possible improvement of a device in question within the scope of claim 3 results in that the support plate for the paper or film roll is inclined obliquely forwards and thus at least substantially forms the desired guide plane for the paper or film roll, which is inclined downwards in the direction of the mentioned passage slot.

For this purpose, in the case of the known device, a plurality of separate ribs are provided which rise towards the rear wall - towards rear wall areas - of the device, which are located on the support plate which is aligned horizontally here and which form the guide plane mentioned. - In this context, it should also be mentioned that in the invention, due to the absence of the mentioned ribs, corresponding rear wall areas for "connecting" such ribs can also be dispensed with.

Advantageous or expedient developments of the subject matter of claims 1, 2 and 3 are specified in claims 4 to 15.

Claim 4 mentions a preferred design for the support and handle area of the support cutting bar of the device, in which the upper, free edge of the support and handle area takes on the function of a holding edge for the paper or film roll. Claim 5 relates to an advantageous dimensioning of the extent of the support and handle area.

In claims 6 to 8, various possible and expedient designs of the support and grip area of the support cutting strip are specified.

Claims 9 to 12 mention alternative solutions for essentially that region of the device according to the invention which comprises the support cutting bar and the adjoining front end of the support plate as well as the cutting channel located within the region of the support cutting bar.

Claim 13 mentions a further advantageous embodiment of the relevant part of the support cutting strip with regard to the plastic films (transparent films) which are critical in use.

Finally, claims 14 and 15 describe - as already mentioned above - a preferred solution for the design of the guide means for guiding the cutting slide on the mentioned upper boundary edge of the opening of the cover assigned to the depot.

6 Description of the invention based on embodiments

The invention is explained in more detail below using exemplary embodiments with reference to Figs. 1 to 8 of the drawing.

Figures 1, 2 and 8 show a device 1 which essentially consists of a housing 2 with depots 3 and 4 for accommodating a paper or film roll and a cover 5 which is detachably attached to the housing 2 and has cutting slides 8 and 9 provided in the area of an opening 6 or 7 of the cover 5. - In Figures 2 and 8, the cutting slides 8 and 9 are not shown for reasons of clarity.

The depot 3 is used, for example, to store a film roll 10 made of plastic film, in particular so-called transparent film, while the depot 4 is used to store a film roll 11 made of aluminum foil.

The cutting slides 8 and 9 assigned to the depots 3, 4 have a cutting blade 12 (see Fig. 7) not shown in detail, which is adapted in its shape and function to the respective purpose of cutting off strips of plastic film or cutting off strips of aluminum foil; the cutting blade intended for cutting through plastic film is designed as a fixed cutting blade in the cutting slide with two cutting edges opposite each other in the cutting area and forming an acute angle with the cutting plane, while the cutting blade intended for cutting through aluminum foil is designed as a disk-shaped cutting blade (circular blade) rotatably mounted in the cutting slide. - In a known manner, pressure rollers made of rubber or similar material are connected to the cutting blade on both sides of the cutting blade, which are supported on areas of the housing or cover on one or the other side of the cutting channel when the film or paper is separated.

In view of the sometimes somewhat critical handling of the plastic film or of webs/sections consisting of it, in the case of devices with two (or more) depots provided one above the other, it is preferred for reasons of practical handling to store the plastic film in the upper depot; the cutting blade for the associated cutting slide is also selected accordingly.

The depots 3, 4 are limited at the bottom by a support plate 13 or 14 supporting the film roll 10 or 11. The support plate 13 or 14 is inclined forwards (see Fig. 2, 3 and 8) and forms at least essentially a guide plane for the film roll 10 or 11. The incline of the support plates 13, 14 is dimensioned such that the film roll 10 or 11 lying on the support plate 13 or 14 is always subjected to a driving force directed towards the front end of the support plate 13 or 14 under the influence of its own weight - assuming that the device is attached in the intended manner to a substantially vertical mounting wall.

As a result, the respective film roll 10 or 11 always rests near the respective cutting slide on an area of the device, namely on a holding edge to be described below.

At the top, the depots are limited by the support plate of the depot above them or by an upper end region 15 of the housing 2, while the rear boundary of the depots 3, 4 is essentially formed by the fastening wall for the device.

The front boundary of the depots 3, 4 is formed partly by an extension 16 or 17 protruding from the support plate 13 or 14 and molded thereto, and partly by an area 18 or 19 of the cover 5 lying above it.

The regions 18 and 19 of the cover, which are arranged one behind the other in the vertical direction, enclose the already mentioned opening 6 of the cover 5, while the region 18 and a region of the cover 5 designated 20 enclose the already mentioned opening 7 of the cover 5.

The extensions 16,17 of the support plate 13 or 14 belong - as moldings of the support plate 13 or 14 - to the housing 2 and form a support and grip area

21 or 22 of an area of the device 1 collectively referred to as support cutting bar 23 or 24. The support and handle area 21 or 22 of the support cutting bar 23 or 24 is followed downwards by a support area 25 or 26 of the support cutting bar 23 or 24, which belongs to the cover 5.

In the support cutting bar 23 or 24 there is a cutting channel 27 or 28 which runs parallel to the longitudinal direction of the support plate 13 or 14 and is assigned to the cutting blade of the cutting slide 8 or 9. The cutting channel 27 or 28 is bordered on the one hand by an edge 29 of the support and gripping area 21 or 22 of the support cutting bar 23 or 24 which lies in front of the cutting channel 27 or 28 in the direction of removal of the paper or film and on the other hand by an edge 30 of the support and gripping area 21 or 22 which lies in the direction of removal of the paper or film onto the

22 following support area 25 or 26 of the support cutting strip 23 or 24.

The pressure forces absorbed by the upper side of the support area during use of the device 1 are guided into the support plate 13 or 14 by an extension 31 or 32 formed on the support plate 13 or 14 and pointing downwards, respectively, while the pressure forces absorbed by the upper side of the support and grip area are guided directly into the support plate 13 or 14 in the vicinity of the cutting channel.

The support and grip area 21 or 22 of the support cutting bar 23 or 24 of the device 1 formed by the extension 16 or 17 has an upper, free edge which has the function of a holding edge 33 or 34 for the film roll 10 or 11. In the case of the exemplary embodiment, this holding edge 33 or 34 extends to a height corresponding to approximately half the diameter of the film roll 10 or 11. The part of the support and grip area 21 or 22 of the support cutting bar 23 or 24 which lies above the level of the support plate 13 or 14 runs at an angle from the cutting channel 27 or 28 in the direction of the depot 3 or 4 for the film roll 10 or 11 and is also designed to be convexly curved to a certain extent in cross-section. - A certain roughness (of the front side) of the support and grip area 21 or 22 ensures that, despite the adhesive forces emanating from the plastic film, the film can be removed or lifted off the support and grip area 21 or 22 relatively easily.

The cutting slide 8 or 9 is guided so as to be displaceable directly on the upper boundary edge of the opening 6 or 7 of the cover 5, designated 35 or 36 (see also Fig. 7), which together with the aforementioned holding edge 33 or 34 forms a passage slot for the paper or film. To guide it on the cover, the boundary edge 35 or 36 has a bead-like extension in cross-section, which corresponds to a guide groove 39 provided on the upper end of the cutting slide 8 or 9 facing away from the cutting blade of the cutting slide 8 or 9, which is provided with formations 72 which engage behind the bead-like extension 37. The guide groove 39 is formed on the one hand by the upper end, designated 41, of the front wall part, designated 43, of the cutting slide 8 or 9 and on the other hand by extensions 49 and 50 formed on the lateral wall parts, designated 44, 45, of the cutting slide 8 or 9.

The structural design of these extensions in conjunction with the properties of the plastic used to manufacture the cutting slides 8, 9 allows a certain elasticity between the extensions 49, 50 and the end 41 of the front wall part 43 of the cutting slide 8 or 9 opposite these extensions, so that the cutting slide 8 or 9 can be attached to or removed from the limiting edge 35 or 36 of the cover 5 with a certain snap action. - With this solution, the cutting slide 8 or 9 guides itself relatively easily on the limiting edge 35 or 36 of the cover 5 when a strip/piece of film is cut off from the film roll 10 or 11.

Figures 4, 5 and 6 show alternative possibilities for the design of that region of a device according to the invention which essentially concerns the support cutting strip with cutting channel and the front end of the support plate for the paper or film roll.

Fig. 4 shows a support cutting bar 54 adjoining the front end of a support plate 53 with a cutting channel 55 which is delimited exclusively by areas of the housing (not shown in more detail), wherein both the support and grip area designated 56 and the support area of the support cutting bar 54 designated 57, including the cutting channel 55, are formed by an extension 58 formed on the support plate 53, which also serves as a support for the adjacent area of the cover.

Fig. 5 shows a support cutting bar 60 adjoining the front end of a support plate 59 with a cutting channel 61 which is delimited exclusively by areas of the cover (not shown in more detail), wherein the support and grip area of the support cutting bar 60 designated by 62 is formed by an extension 63 formed on the support plate together with a wall area of the cover which is supported on the housing (also not shown in more detail) - namely on an extension 64 of the support plate 59, to which the support area of the support cutting bar 60 designated by 65 adjoins, including the cutting channel 61.

Fig. 6 shows a support cutting strip 67 resting on the front end of a support plate 66 with a cutting channel 68 which is limited exclusively by areas of the cover (not shown in more detail). The support and grip area of the support cutting strip 67, designated 69, is formed by a strip-like area 70 which is supported on the support plate 66 - i.e. on the housing - and which is molded onto the cover, and which is followed by the support area of the support cutting strip 67, designated 71, which is also supported on the support plate 66, including the cutting channel.

In addition, it should be noted that for fastening the device to a wall or similar, fastening holes are provided in areas 74, 75 of the housing 2 of the device 1.

1. Device according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the edge of the support and grip area ( 21 , 22 ) of the support cutting bar ( 23 , 24 ) opposite the cutting channel ( 27 , 28 ) forms an adhesive edge ( 33 , 34 ) for the paper or film roll ( 10 , 11 ). 5. Device according to claim 4, characterized in that the support and gripping area ( 21 , 22 ) of the support cutting bar ( 23 , 24 ) is dimensioned in the removal direction of the paper or film such that the holding edge ( 33 , 34 ) extends to a height corresponding to approximately half the diameter of the paper or film roll ( 10 , 11 ). 6. Device according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the part of the support and grip area ( 21 , 22 ) of the support cutting bar ( 23 , 24 ) lying above the plane of the support plate ( 13 , 14 ) extends at an angle from the cutting channel ( 27 , 28 ) in the direction of the depot ( 3 , 4 ) for the paper or film roll ( 10 , 11 ). 7. Device according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the part of the support and grip area ( 21 , 22 ) of the support cutting bar ( 23 , 24 ) lying above the plane of the support plate ( 13 , 14 ) extends from the cutting channel ( 27 , 28 ) in a convex curve in the direction of the depot ( 3 , 4 ) for the paper or film roll ( 10 , 11 ). 8. Device according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the part of the support and grip area ( 21 , 22 ) of the support cutting bar ( 23 , 24 ) lying above the plane of the support plate ( 13 , 14 ) extends at an angle from the cutting channel ( 27 , 28 ) in the direction of the depot ( 3 , 41 ) for the paper or film roll ( 10 , 11 ). 9. Device according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the cutting channel ( 27 , 28 ) is delimited on the one hand by a region of the housing ( 2 ) and on the other hand by a region of the cover ( 5 ), wherein the support and grip region ( 21 , 22 ) of the support cutting bar ( 23 , 24 ) is formed by an extension ( 31 , 32 ) molded onto the support plate ( 13 , 14 ), while the support region ( 25 , 26 ) of the support cutting bar ( 23 , 24 ) is formed by a wall region of the cover ( 5 ) supported on the housing ( 2 ). 10. Device according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the cutting channel ( 55 ) is delimited exclusively by areas of the housing, wherein both the support and grip area ( 56 ) and the support area ( 57 ) of the support cutting strip ( 54 ) including the cutting channel ( 55 ) are formed by an extension ( 58 ) molded onto the support plate ( 53 ). 11. Device according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the cutting channel ( 61 ) is delimited exclusively by areas of the cover, wherein the support and grip area ( 62 ) of the support cutting bar ( 60 ) is formed by an extension ( 63 ) formed on the support plate ( 59 ) together with a wall area of the cover supported on the housing (extension 64 ), to which the support area ( 65 ) of the support cutting bar ( 60 ) adjoins, including the cutting channel ( 61 ). 12. Device according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the cutting channel ( 68 ) is delimited exclusively by areas of the cover, wherein the support and grip area ( 69 ) of the support cutting bar ( 67 ) is formed by a bar-like area ( 70 ) which is supported on the housing and molded onto the cover, to which the support area ( 71 ) of the support cutting bar ( 67 ), which is also supported on the housing, adjoins, including the cutting channel ( 68 ). 13. Device according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that at least a substantial part of the surface portion of the support and grip area ( 21 , 22 ) of the support cutting strip ( 23 , 24 ) facing the user of the device ( 1 ) is made rough in a manner which reduces adhesive adhesion of the film to the support and grip area ( 21 , 22 ). 14. Device according to claim 2, characterized in that the upper boundary edge ( 35 , 36 ) of the opening ( 6 , 7 ) of the cover ( 5 ) associated with the depot ( 3 , 4 ) for the paper or film roll ( 10 , 11 ) has a bead-like extension ( 37 , 38 ) in cross-section, which corresponds to a guide groove ( 39 , 40 ) provided on the upper end ( 41 , 42 ) of the cutting slide ( 8 , 9 ) facing away from the cutting blade ( 12 ) with formations ( 72 , 73 ) engaging behind the said bead-like extension ( 37 , 38 ). 15. Device according to claim 14, characterized in that the guide groove ( 39 , 40 ) is formed on the one hand by the upper end ( 41 , 42 ) of the front wall part ( 43 , 44 ) of the cutting slide ( 8 , 9 ) and on the other hand by extensions ( 49 to 52 ) formed on the lateral wall parts ( 45 to 48 ).
