The invention relates to a device for setting up an awning or canopy in connection with an overhead vehicle tailgate, according to the preamble of claim 1, and an awning or canopy for vehicles with a tailgate, according to the preamble of claim 5, as well as a vehicle with a rear opening according to the preamble of claim 8. The state of the art is, for example, the "vehicle with a tailgate" according to DE 198 23 006 A1. There, a cloth (roller blind) integrated into the tailgate that can be rolled out to the rear is provided for use of the tailgate as an extended protective roof, the free end of which is provided with means for tensioning the rolled-out cloth, which are mainly two standing support rods and tensioning cables.
The disadvantage of this canopy for vehicles with a tailgate hinged to the roof area is the opening that remains at the rear, which is opposite the rear opening of the vehicle, or the lack of side panels that would complement the canopy to form an awning. The object of the invention is therefore to improve the known object of the type mentioned at the beginning so that a simple, optional installation of an awning that is closed on all sides or a canopy that is pulled down to the rear is possible at a vehicle rear opening without major material expenditure.

The solution to this problem is the subject matter of claims 1 (device), 5 (awning or roof) and 8 (vehicle) as well as their subclaims.

The advantage of this solution, compared to the above-mentioned state of the art, is the possibility of creating a more (tent) or less (tent without side walls) closed extension of the storage space of a stationary so-called station wagon or delivery van to the outside, in order to

e.g. to be able to provide enough sleeping space or a galley, workshop or similar.

In the following, the invention, in particular insofar as it is not described by the wording of the claims, is explained in detail in two alternatives using an exemplary embodiment partially shown in the drawings by the inventor. They show:

In the exemplary embodiment of the invention, a so-called van 10 with a tailgate 14 attached to the top of its rear opening 12 and thus lying at the top is provided with a device for setting up an awning with three imaginary fabric panels, which are supported by a framework of just two elastically bendable tent poles 16. For this purpose, imaginary tubes or loops are attached inside the tent along the two curved lines along which the central, curved fabric panel is connected to the two lateral, essentially flat fabric panels, into which one of the two quarter-circle-shaped tent poles 16 can be pulled per connecting line, each of which consists of several sections put together and made of fiberglass, for example. Each of the two tent poles 16 is fitted with a metal sleeve 18 at its lower end remote from the van 10, onto which an arrowhead 19 is formed that can be anchored in the uncompacted ground 20 on which the van 10 stands. In addition, each of the two tent poles 16 is inserted at its upper end near the van into another metal sleeve 22 or 24, which is attached to the lower front side of the tailgate 14 or to its inner side at the bottom in a corner of the flap 14 in such a way that the associated tent pole 16 extends in the desired direction.

The sleeve 22 (see Fig.4 A) is provided with an oval fastening flange 26 at the end, while the alternatively used sleeve 24 is provided with a rectangular fastening flange 28 at the side. Either two flanges are attached to the lower front side of the tailgate 14 or two flanges 28 are attached to its inside. In any case, the opening of the circular cylindrical sleeve cavity points approximately horizontally to the rear, more or less parallel to the longitudinal axis of the van 10. - These cavities are closed at the front so that the associated rod end finds a stop, which in the case of the assignment of a sleeve 22 with fastening flange 26 is provided with a corresponding flange 30 (see Fig.5), so that these two

Flanges 2 6 and 30 can be detachably connected by means of two screw connections.

The two sleeves 22 or 24 can, by adjusting to converge rearward (away from the van 10), support two crossed tent poles 16 at their front, upper ends.

Instead of an awning that may be missing one of the side panels, a canopy can be set up with one panel pulled down at the back, i.e. an awning that is missing both side panels.

Not shown are adhesive strips laid along the three free edges of the upper tailgate 14 of the van 10 and along the two side edges of its rear opening 12, which can be interrupted and interact with five adhesive strips in the sense of hooking a velcro in a fabric, which are attached to the five edges of the tent fabric, namely to the front edge of each of the two side fabric panels and to three edges - one front and two upper - which are created by reducing the central, curved panel at the front by the area of the tailgate 14.

The vertical (parts of) the fabric panels can be provided with roll-up, at least translucent plastic films, which are inserted into corresponding cutouts so that the awning or roof has windows that can be opened if necessary.

Claims (9)

1. Device for erecting an awning or canopy in connection with an overhead tailgate ( 14 ) of a vehicle ( 10 ) with a rear opening ( 12 ) which can be closed by means of the pivoting tailgate ( 14 ); with tent poles ( 16 ), at least one of which can be supported at a positive distance from the rear edge of the upper tailgate ( 14 ) on the floor ( 20 ) supporting the vehicle ( 10 ), characterized in that at least one tent pole ( 16 ) is elastically bendable, that tent poles ( 16 ) can be drawn at least in sections into tubes or loops of the tent or roof cloth, and that pole ends can be fixed on the one hand to the rear edge of the upper tailgate ( 14 ) and on the other hand to the floor ( 20 ), such that the tent poles ( 16 ) form a framework for supporting or suspending the tent or roof cloth. 2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that metal sleeves ( 22 or 24 ) fastened to the tailgate ( 14 ) and a stop for each received end are provided for securing rod ends. 3. Device according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that metal sleeves ( 18 ) which can be anchored to the ground ( 20 ) are provided for securing rod ends to the ground. 4. Device according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that an optionally interrupted adhesive strip is attached along the three free edges of the upper tailgate ( 14 ) and along the two lateral edges of the rear opening ( 12 ), which interact with optionally interrupted adhesive strips along free edges of three fabric panels of an awning that can be connected to the rear opening ( 12 ) and the upper tailgate ( 14 ) and whose central, curved fabric panel is shortened at the front at the level of the upper tailgate ( 14 ) by the height of the latter measured in the closed state; and that two elastically bendable tent rods ( 16 ) are to be arranged along the two curved connecting lines of the central fabric panel and the two lateral, essentially flat fabric panels. 5. Awning or canopy for vehicles ( 10 ) with a rear opening ( 12 ) which can be closed by means of a temporarily upper tailgate ( 14 ); with a tent or roof cloth and tent rods ( 16 ) supporting the latter, characterized in that the tent rods ( 16 ) are elastically bendable and can be drawn at least in sections into tubes or loops of the tent or roof cloth and form a framework for supporting or suspending the tent or roof cloth. 6. Awning according to claim 5, characterized in that the ready-made tent fabric consists of three fabric panels, namely two lateral, substantially flat panels and a central, curved panel which is connected to the lateral panels along two curved lines along which the tubes or loops for two curved tent poles ( 16 ) are arranged and is shortened at the front at the level of the upper tailgate ( 14 ) by the height of the latter measured in the closed state; and that adhesive strips are attached to the front free edges of the tent fabric. 7. Awning according to claim 6, characterized in that the two retracted tent poles ( 16 ) are closer to each other at their front, upper ends on the tailgate ( 14 ) than at their rear, lower ends on the ground ( 20 ); and that the middle fabric panel has a trapezoidal development. 8. Vehicle ( 10 ) with a rear opening ( 12 ) which can be closed by means of a pivoting, upper tailgate ( 14 ), characterized in that an adhesive strip, which may be interrupted, is attached along the three free edges of the upper tailgate ( 14 ) and along the two lateral edges of the rear opening ( 12 ). 9. Vehicle according to claim 8, characterized in that the closing tailgate has on its lower edge on both sides an integrated receptacle for one end of each of two tent poles, which can be positively inserted into the associated receptacle.
