Abstract

An automobile has a front-zone sensor which detects an impact between a vehicle and a pedestrian and/or cyclist. The sensor triggers an actuator which secures a hinge at the front of the hood, and releases the hood at the rear end. The hood rises at the rear to form an energy-absorbing deflection panel.
