Process for the production of hard rubber-like masses.

It has been found that valuable hard rubber-like masses of high heat resistance and good resistance to chemical agents can be obtained if mixtures of
Natural rubber and butadiene alkali metal polymers processed in the usual way for hard rubber.

In addition to sulfur, other additives can be added to the mixtures, such as B. vulcanization accelerators, fillers u. The like. Mixtures of natural rubber with the sodium polymer of butadiene (1,3) have proven particularly valuable. Hard rubber mixtures which only contain this artificial type of chewing skin without the addition of natural rubber also provide a valuable hard rubber, but are difficult to process; They are also less plastic, absorb sulfur poorly, etc. Natural rubber, on the other hand, is very plastic, absorbs sulfur, fillers and the like. Like., but provides a hard rubber which is only moderately resistant to heat and chemical influences.

In the last-mentioned regard, however, it is again advantageously supplemented by the butadiene-sodium polymer mentioned, since this provides hard rubber-like compounds which are superior to natural hard rubber in terms of heat resistance and resistance to chemical agents. If one works according to the present method, i. H. If natural rubber is used together with butadiene-alkali metal or sodium polymer, a material that is plastic, easy to process and absorbs fillers, is obtained, similar to natural rubber, which provides hard vulcanizates that are also considerably superior to natural hard rubber in terms of heat resistance and resistance.

Example: A mixture of 50 parts of raw rubber (smoked sheets), 50 parts of sodium polymer of butadiene, 75 parts of sulfur, 1 part of piperidinedithiocarbamic acid, piperidine, 150 parts of pumice stone, 5 parts of lime, is heated for 90 minutes at 4Y2 atm. vulcanized. The result is a vulcanizate that is characterized by its high level of heat resistance and chemical resistance.

Instead of the sodium polymer of butadiene, it is also possible to use a polymer of butadiene which has been produced with the aid of potassium or an alloy of potassium and sodium. The vulcanization mixtures can, instead of piperidinedithiocarbamic acid piperidine, also be used by other vulcanization accelerators, e.g. B. mercaptobenzothiazole, or be accelerated by condensation products of crotonaldehyde with ammonia.
