Abstract

Se descubren polímeros que comprende funcionalidad hidrófobas reversibles. Los polímeros comprenden preferentemente segmentos de ácido Lewisy segmentosde base Lewis. Los segmentos de polímero son por sí mismos hidrófilos y se dilatarán od isolverán en agua. Cuando los segmentos sonincorporados en un polímero de acuerdo con la presente invención, los segmentos forman complejos insolubles en agua o hidrófobos. Con los cambios en el pH,temperatura, o tipo de solvente, estos complejosse pueden disociar, dando grandes transiciones en la viscosidad del polímero,capacidad de emulsificación,fuerza mecánica o propiedades de transporte. Estos polímeros son útiles como emulsionantes reversibles que forman emulsiones estables apH a cídico, yemulsiones inestables a pH básico, como espesadores que tienen agua y que poseen una baja viscosidad a un pH bajo, y una alta viscosidad a un pH alto,como resinas superabsorbentes, o como revestimientos para agentes farmacéuticoso agr ícolas.
