The machinery comprises of a frame (2), two spreader booms (8, 14), and several nozzles (20) 5 connected to a storage tank (22). The first spreader boom (8) is pivotally suspended on the right side of the frame (2) around a vertical pivot axis (28), while the second spreader boom (14) is pivotally suspended on the left side around another vertical pivot axis (32). This allows the machinery to transition between a working configuration, where the booms are extended outward, and a transport configuration, where they are retracted parallel to the frame's 10 longitudinal direction (X). Additionally, the machinery features rope holders (34, 46) with rotational reel elements (36, 48) for winding ropes (38, 50), the ends of which are fastened to the reel elements and can be connected to the spreader booms. These rope holder suspensions (58, 60) can be adjusted vertically relative to the frame (2) and are positioned in front of the boom suspensions (26, 30). The reel elements (36, 48) are linked to a motor (62) 15 for rotation.
Description
An agricultural machinery for spreading of liquids or slurries in an agricultural field
The present invention relates to the field of machinery for use in agriculture. In a first aspect the present invention relates to an agricultural machinery for spreading of lig- uids or slurries in an agricultural field. In a second aspect the present invention relates to a device for retro-fitting on an agricultural machinery having spreader booms. In its third aspect, the present invention provides a use of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the invention or of the device of the second aspect of the present inven- tion for spreading a liquid or a slurry in an agricultural field. In a fourth aspect the pre- sent invention relates to a method for spreading manure in an agricultural field.
Within agriculture it has been well-known for decades to utilize manure originating from farm animals as fertilizer for crops. In order to spread manure an agricultural ve- hicle is used which comprises a storage tank for storing the manure along with two spreader booms extending from either sider of the vehicle. A number of application hoses which are in fluid connection with the interior of the storage tank are arranged on each spreader boom.
Hereby a driver may efficiently fertilize an agricultural field which is to be fertilized with manure in that a large area may be covered due to the presence of the two spreader booms having application hoses on either side of the vehicle, when the vehi- cle moves over the field. The application hoses are being dragged over the ground and distributes the manure onto the soil.
Each spreader boom is being suspended in a suspension in such a way that each spreader boom may pivot around an essentially vertical axis. Hereby the spreader booms may be retracted into a position extending along the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. This conveniently makes it possible for the vehicle to be transported on public roads.
In certain designs there will even be an additional pivot axis on each spreader boom.
Hereby an effective spreader width of 30 — 40 meter or even more can be attained, while still allowing retracting the spreader booms when the vehicle is in a transport configuration for transportation on public roads.
It will be evident that significant stresses will be imposed on the vehicle’s suspensions, carrying spreader booms having a width of 30 — 40 meters or more. Moreover, the spreader booms will be exposed to twisting and other type of stresses. These may be due to the application hoses’ contact with the ground.
An uneven ground in the agricultural field over which the vehicle will have to move will moreover imply accelerations essentially in all directions. This represents addi- tional stresses of the spreader booms and their suspensions.
Finally, oscillations may appear due to positive feedback of minor movements which are created by moving of the vehicle over the uneven ground. Such oscillations may contribute to rather extensive stresses, yet of short durations, on the spreader booms and their suspensions.
Ultimately, the stresses and oscillations to which the spreader booms and their suspen- sions are exposed may contribute to disintegration of the whole or part of the spreader booms and their suspensions.
In an attempt to strengthen the design of the prior art spreader booms, such booms have been provided with a kind of hinge comprising a rigid connection between each spreader boom and a frame of the vehicle, so that the hinge extends from each spreader boom in a slanted upward pointing direction.
Although this type of reinforcement will alleviate the stresses on the spreader booms themselves it has however been found that it is practically impossible to mount this type of reinforcement at a sufficiently distant position on each spreader boom with the view to attain sufficient rigidity of the reinforcement.
Accordingly, a need persists for technology for suppressing stresses encountered in an agricultural machinery comprising spreader booms and which is intended for spreading of manure or other types of liquids or slurries.
Itis an objective of the present invention to provide such technology.
This objective is fulfilled according to the present invention in its first, second and third aspect.

The agricultural machinery according to the first aspect of the present invention pro- vides improved structural integrity of the two spreader booms of the machinery.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, the first rope holder 34 and the second rope holder 46 each respectively is be- ing coupled to an actuator 64, such as a hydraulic actuator, wherein the actuator is be- ing configured for being able to alter the vertical position of the first rope holder 34 and the second rope holder 46, respectively, relative to the respective rope holder sus- pension 58,60.
The variation of the vertical position of the first rope holder 34 and the second rope holder 46, relative to the respective rope holder suspension 58,60 is advantageous in those situations, wherein the ropes 38,50 will come into close proximity to the spreader booms 8,14.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, a common actuator is being coupled to the first rope holder 34 and the second rope holder 46, thereby allowing simultaneous altering the position of the first rope holder 34 and of the second rope holder 46, relative to the respective rope holder sus- pensions 58,60.
This embodiment represents a simplified design of the agricultural machinery.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, a first actuator is being coupled to the first rope holder 34; and a second actua- tor is being coupled to the second rope holder 46, thereby allowing independent alter- ing the vertical position of the first rope holder 34 and the second rope holder 46, re- spectively, relative to the respective rope holder element 58,60.
Hereby greater flexibility in respect of the first rope holder independent of the second rope holder, and vice versa, is attained.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, the first reel element 36 and the second reel element 48 are being connected to the same motor, thereby allowing simultaneously rotation of the first reel element 36 and the second reel element 48.
This embodiment represents a simplified design of the agricultural machinery.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, the first reel element 36 is being connected to a first motor and the second reel element 48 is being connected to a second motor, thereby allowing independent rota- tion of the first reel element 36 and the second reel element 48, respectively.
Hereby greater flexibility in respect of the first reel element independent of the second reel element, and vice versa, is attained.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, the motor or the motors 62 for rotating the reel element/reel elements 36,48 independently is/are being configured for one or more of the following operational modes: rotation of said reel element in one of two rotational directions; locking and thereby preventing rotation of said reel element, enabling free rotation of said reel ele- ment, and enabling free rotation while braking said reel element.
These modes represent desirably operational modes of the agricultural machinery.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, the motor or the motors 62 for rotation of the reel element 36,48 is being a hy- draulic motor.
As hydraulics are commonly employed in agricultural machinery it will be easy to adapt the agricultural machinery of the invention to an existing hydraulic pump, e.g. in a tractor which is to tow the agricultural machinery.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, the hydraulic motor comprises a pressure relief valve which, when the motor or the motors 62 is/are being locked with the view to prevent rotation of the reel ele- ment 26,48, is being configured to shift configuration to enable free rotation of the mo- tor when a predetermined magnitude of tensile force is being detected, said predeter- mined magnitude of tensile force implying a corresponding increased oil pressure in the motor.
Hereby excessive load of ropes and suspension of the spreader booms may be avoided.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, the first rotational reel element 36 and/or the second rotational reel element 48 are being pivotally suspended in a way that enables rotation around an essentially ver- tically pivot axis A.
Hereby is assured a better winding or unwinding of the rope 38,50 onto or from the re- spective rotational reel element 36,48.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, the first spreader boom 8 and/or the second spreader boom 14 each individu- ally 1s being coupled to an actuator, such as a hydraulic actuator, which is being con- figured to shift the configuration of the respective spreader boom 8,14 between a work configuration and a transport configuration and vice versa.
Hereby each spreader boom 8,14 may easily be expanded and retracted between its transport configuration and its work configuration.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, the motor or the motors 62 for rotating the reel elements 36,48 is/are being configured, when the machinery is being in a work configuration, to exert a torque on the first rotational reel element 36 and/or on the second rotational reel element 48, thereby keeping tension in the first rope 38 and in the second rope 50, respectively.
By keeping the rope tense, it is possible to avoid entanglement of the rope with obsta- cles in the agricultural field, such as in the form of crops of other vegetation.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, the torque exerted on the first rotational reel element 36 and/or on the second rotational reel element 48 is not sufficient for implying that the first spreader boom 8 or the second spreader boom 14 is brought into its respective transport configuration.
Hereby the movement in relation to expansion or retraction of the spreader boom/booms is solely performed by means of said actuator for shifting of the configu- ration of the individual spreader boom 8,14 between the work configuration and the transport configuration, and vice versa.
According to an embodiment of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the in- vention, the actuator which is being configured to shift the configuration of the indi- vidual spreader boom 8,14 between the transport configuration and the work configu- ration 1s exerting a force which is sufficient to overcome the torque exerted on the first rotational reel element 36 and/or on the second rotational reel element 48, when the in- dividual spreader boom 8,14 is being brought from its transport configuration to its work configuration.

According to an embodiment of the device of the second aspect of the invention, the technical features of the device is as defined in respect of the agricultural machinery according to the first aspect of the invention.
The third aspect of the present invention
In a third aspect the present invention provides a use of an agricultural machinery 200 according to the first aspect of the present invention or of a device 100 according to the second aspect of the present invention for spreading of a liquid or of a slurry in an agri- cultural field.
The fourth aspect of the present invention
In a fourth aspect the present invention relates to a method for spreading manure in an agricultural field, wherein said method comprises the steps of: 1) providing an agricultural machinery 200 according to the first aspect of the present invention; 11) bringing the first spreader boom 8 and the second spreader boom 14 to their work configuration, while having the second end 42 of the first rope 38 fastened to the first connection point 44 on said first spreader boom 8, and while having the second end 54 of the second rope 50 fastened to the second connection point 56 on said second spreader boom 14; iii) delivering of manure to one or more of said nozzles 20 of the first spreader boom 8 and the second spreader boom 14; while moving said agricultural machinery over the agricultural field.
Referring now to the figures for better illustrating the present invention, Fig. 1 outlines in a perspective view the working principle of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the present invention.
Fig. 1 shows the agricultural machinery 200 in the form of a trailer to be coupled to a rear end of a tractor or the like. The agricultural machinery is for spreading of liquids or slurries in an agricultural field.
The agricultural machinery comprises in the orientation which defines straight-forward movement, a frame 2 having a front end 4 and a rear end 6, a first spreader boom 8 having a proximal end 10 and a distal end 12, a second spreader boom 14 having a proximal end 16 and a distal end 18, a number of nozzles 20 for spreading a liquid or a slurry from the storage tank 22.
It is seen that the frame comprises a plurality of wheels 24 for supporting the weight of the storage tank 22 which may contain e.g. manure.
The proximal end 10 of the first spreader boom 8 is being pivotally suspended onto the frame 2 of the agricultural machinery in a first boom suspension 26 at a right hand side thereof in such a way that the first spreader boom 8 is able to pivot around a first, es- sentially vertical pivot axis 28.
Similarly, the proximal end 16 of the second spreader boom 14 is being suspended onto the frame 2 of the agricultural machinery in a second boom suspension 30 at a left hand side thereof in such a way that the second spreader boom 14 is able to pivot around a second, essentially vertical pivot axis 32.
These two suspensions imply that the agricultural machinery is being able to shift con- figuration between a work configuration in which the first spreader boom 8 and the second spreader boom 14 are being expanded by stretching outward from the frame 2 of the agricultural machinery, and a transport configuration in which the first spreader boom 8 and the second spreader boom 14 are being retracted, hereby rendering at least part of the two spreader booms 8,14 extend essentially parallel to a longitudinal direc- tion X of the frame 2 (not illustrated in Fig. 1).
It is seen that the nozzles 20 for spreading liquid or slurry are being arranged along the extension of the first spreader boom 8 and along the extension of the second spreader boom 14, respectively. This arrangement allows spreading of liquids or slurries in a relatively large width with the agricultural machinery, when it is moving across an ag- ricultural field.
In order to attain increased stability of the two spreader booms the agricultural machin- ery comprises a first rope 38 and a second rope 50, which stretch between a front por- tion of the agricultural machinery and a connection point on a spreader boom, at a right hand side and at a left hand side of the agricultural machinery, respectively.
Accordingly, the agricultural machinery comprises at its right hand side a first rope holder 34 having a first rotational reel element 36 for winding a rope, wherein the first reel element comprises a first rope 38 having a first end 40 and a second end 42; wherein the first end 40 of the first rope is being fastened to the first reel element 36, and wherein the second end 42 of the first rope is being configured for being connected to a first connection point 44 on the first spreader boom 8.
Likewise, the agricultural machinery comprises at its left hand side a second rope holder 46 having a second rotational reel element 48 for winding a rope, wherein the second reel element comprises a second rope 50 having a first end 52 and a second end 54; wherein the first end 52 of the second rope is being fastened to the second reel ele- ment 48, and wherein the second end 54 of the second rope is being configured for be- ing connected to a second connection point 56 on the second spreader boom 14.
Fig. 1 also illustrates that the agricultural machinery comprises a first rope holder sus- pension 58 which is being arranged at a right hand side thereof, wherein the first rope holder 34 is being suspended in this first rope holder suspension in such a way that the position of the first rope holder can be altered in a vertical direction relative to the frame 2 of the agricultural machinery.
Finally, Fig. 1 also shows that the agricultural machinery comprises a second rope holder suspension 60 which is being arranged at a left hand side thereof, wherein the second rope holder 46 is being suspended in this second rope holder suspension in such a way that the position of the second rope holder can be altered in a vertical direc- tion relative to the frame 2 of the agricultural machinery.
It is seen that the first rope holder suspension 58 is being arranged in front of the first boom suspension 26 belonging to the first spreader boom 8. Likewise, the second rope holder suspension 60 is being arranged in front of the second boom suspension 30 be- longing to the second spreader boom 14.
The first reel element 36 and the second reel element 48 are being connected to a mo- tor 62 for rotation of said first reel element 36 and said second reel element 48, respec- tively.
The ropes 38,50 and the rotational reels in their reel suspension may hereby enable bringing the spreader booms 8,14 from a work configuration in which the spreader booms are expanded, to a transport configuration in which the spreader booms 8,14 er retracted, in that the rotational reel elements 36,48 can be brought to rotation, whereby the ropes 38,50 pull the spreader booms 8, 14.
The adjustment of the vertical position of the rope holder 34,46 is an advantage, when the spreader booms move from the expanded work configuration to the transport con- figuration, in which they are retracted, because it can be avoided that the ropes 38,50 collide with the spreader booms 8,14. The same advantage is attained when the spreader booms are brought from their transport configuration to their work configura- tion.
Fig. 2 1s a drawing which shows a similar agricultural machinery according to the first aspect of the present invention as seen from behind.
Fig. 2 shows the agricultural machinery 200 with the storage tank 22 and comprising a first spreader boom 8 and a second spreader boom 14 each comprising a number of nozzles 20 for spreading a liquid or a slurry which 1s being transported in the storage tank 22. A pump 68 provides delivery of the liquid/slurry from the tank 22 to the noz- zles 20.
Fig. 2 illustrates very well the relatively large working width of the spreader booms, relative to the width of the transportation part itself of the agricultural machinery, and also makes it clear that huge forces may be encountered between each spreader boom 8,14, their respective suspension and the frame 2 of the agricultural machinery.
Fig. 3 is a drawing which in a perspective view shows a rope holder with reel element which is employed in the agricultural machinery according to the first aspect of the in- vention.
Fig. 3 shows the rope holder 34,46. The rope holder comprises a first or a second rota- tional reel element 36,48. The reel element is intended for winding the rope 38,50. The reel element may be brought to rotation via the hydraulic motor 62.
It is seen that the reel element 36,48 is pivotally suspended in a way that enables rota- tion around an essentially vertical pivot axis A.
It is also seen that the rope holder 34,46 comprises a rope guide 88. The rope guide comprising a through-going hole 90 for accommodating the rope 38,50 belonging to the rope holder 34,46 and thereby guide the rope 38,50 relative to the rotational reel el- ement 26,48 upon winding thereof. This arrangement provides better control of the rope 38,50 in its winding onto or un-winding from the rotational reel element 36,48.
Fig. 4 is an illustration which outlines one way in which the vertical position of the rope holder of the agricultural machinery of the first aspect of the present invention may be varied and which also illustrates a device according to the second aspect of the present invention.
Accordingly, Fig. 4 shows a way in which a rope holder 34,46 along with its rotational reel element 36,48 may be suspended on a rope holder suspension 58,60.
It is seen that the reel element 36,48 is being arranged on the rope holder 34,46 and that the rope holder 34,46 is being coupled to the actuator 64 which is being a hydraulic actuator. The actuator is being configured to alter the vertical position of the rope holder 34,46 in relation to the respective rope holder suspension 58,60.
It is seen that the first end 40,52 of the rope 38,50 is fastened to the rotational reel ele- ment 36,48 and that the free, second end 42,54 of the rope 38,50 is ready for being fas- tened to a spreader boom.
It will be advantageous to let the motor 62 for rotating the reel elements 36,48 and to let the actuator 64 for adjusting the vertical position of the rope holders 34,46 be hy- draulically operated and to provide a control system for controlling of these with the view to be able to control: the vertical position of the first rope holder 34 relative to the first rope holder suspension 58; the vertical position of the second rope holder 46 rela- tive to the second rope holder suspension 60; the motor 62 driving the first reel ele- ment 36; and the motor 62 driving the second reel element 48.
It should be understood that all features and achievements discussed above and in the appended claims in relation to one aspect of the present invention and embodiments thereof apply equally well to the other aspects of the present invention and embodi- ments thereof.
