Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a una reducción en la cantidad de PaAos funcionales en guayule lo que proporciona la producción de mayores cantidades de caucho en comparación con la cantidad de caucho producido por guayule de tipo silvestre que tiene una cantidad no reducida de PaAos funcional. Además, el guayule con una cantidad reducida de PaAos funcionales es más grande que el guayule de tipo silvestre y, por lo tanto, tiene un mayor rendimiento de caucho por acre que el guayule de tipo silvestre. La reducción de la cantidad de PaAos funcionales en guayule puede ser causada por alteraciones genéticas en PaAos. El guayule que tiene PaAos con una secuencia de aminoácidos específica produce más caucho que el guayule con PaAos que tiene una secuencia de aminoácidos diferente. Por lo tanto, uno puede usar las diferencias de secuencia como un biomarcador para seleccionar plantas de guayule con alta producción de caucho.
