Abstract

Se proporcionan métodos para prevenir o disminuir el PEDv y/o bacterias de Salmonella en el alimento para animales, ingredientes alimentarios, y alimento para mascotas. Los métodos utilizan mitigantes químicos generalmente seguros, tales como ácidos grasos de cadena media, aceites esenciales, y bisulfato de sodio. Los mitigantes químicos se introducen al alimento o ingredientes alimentarios a tasas de inclusión seleccionadas a fin de evitar o disminuir el PEDv y/o bacterias de Salmonella en el alimento para animales, ingredientes alimentarios, o alimento para mascotas. Los métodos son particularmente adecuados para su uso en el tratamiento post-procesamiento del alimento para animales, ingredientes alimentarios o alimentos para mascotas que serán transportados y almacenados por varios días o semanas.
