Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un polipéptido novedoso que tiene la actividad enzimática de conversión de metilglioxal a ácido láctico en un sólo paso (conocida como actividad de glioxalasa III), un polinucleótido que tiene una secuencia de nucleótidos que codifica para dicho polipéptido, y usos de los mismos; la invención se refiere a la modulación de la actividad de glioxalasa III en un microorganismo, haciendo variar el nivel de expresión del polinucleótido que codifica para dicho polipéptido; la invención se refiere también a la producción de químicos de utilidad, especialmente 1,2-propanodiol, acetol y ácido láctico por microorganismos fermentantes, en donde su actividad de glioxalasa III es modulada.
