I have read quite a few titles from Matsumoto and it's an author with some strengths. I didn't like becchin to mandara though, it felt empty and uninspired compared to other titles. The rape scene felt so forced, like if he was thinking: "oh I am such a subversive author, I need to include some disturbing sexual violence for my fans".
If you want to try, I think Alice from Hell is much better:

I'm also writing a review for Akagi, the last battle was a torture for me who doesn't know Japanese rules for Majhong..

Hi have you read Life in Tokyo Ichijou by the same author? The hero is a pure narcissist and the author has quite some tenderness for him. I'm starting to think that each of fukumoto's works is about some aspect of toxic masculinity (violence, narciscism, defying death), approached with fascination rather than condemning it.
