I don't usually do review because the mangas I love already got great score (Berserk, Akira, Gunnm, Vagabond, Death Note etc...) but Levius is underrated here.

I was introduced to the Levius manga thanks to the anime that I loved. But I was blown away by the manga : it's way different. Still a steampunk universe but way more violent, beautiful and shocking (Volume 3 specially). The art is fantastic, the more you look at it, the more you are impressed. The story is way more than a steampunk boxing manga. I won't say more because I don't want to spoil anything.

This will be my second written review on this website. I usually don't feel compelled to write them but I do so when it's for underrated mangas that are misunderstood or need more attention.

This is one of them. I found out about this manga as I was reading some random Twitter thread where people weresupposed to list down obscure manga, and as always, people were listing well-known things like Jigokuraku Hell's Paradise or Jujutsu Kaisen. One person however, mentioned this manga and it seemed very interesting so I felt compelled to check it out.

"Levius" es un manga que destaca principalmente por su estilo visual único. La ilustración y los fondos tienen un carácter muy personal, algunos paneles son impresionantes y muestran un dominio técnico y una visión estética propia. La ambientación steampunk, combinada con arquitectura europea de distintas épocas, aporta personalidad al mundo y diferencia la obra de otros mangas con ambientaciones más convencionales.

El boxeo mecánico es otro de los puntos más atractivos del manga. Las peleas tienen un riesgo real, y el hecho de que los personajes puedan morir en el ring genera tensión y mantiene al lector pendiente del resultado. Esto, junto con la combinación de ... drama y acción, convierte cada enfrentamiento en un momento sólido dentro de la obra.

Sin embargo, la ejecución de la trama deja que desear en bastantes aspectos. Es bastante predecible, con conflictos que se resuelven de manera evidente y un arco argumental que no sorprenderá a nadie habituado a leer este tipo de mangas. La exposición es excesiva, se recurre a largos bloques de texto para contextualizarnos acerca de la historia, cuando gran parte de esa información podría haberse transmitido de forma más visual o integrada en la acción, y no acaba por ser tan relevante al final. Esto hace que la lectura se sienta algo tonta en retrospectiva, especialmente considerando que tiene una duración bastante corta.

En conjunto, Levius es entretenida y recomendable si buscas una historia de acción corta con elementos de drama y un universo steampunk interesante, pero con una ejecución y personajes bastante genérica. No es una obra que deje huella profunda, pero cumple su función como lectura ágil y visualmente llamativa. Es disfrutable, aunque no va más allá de lo que muestra en superficie, recomendable hasta cierto punto.

"Levius" is a manga that stands out primarily for its unique visual style. The illustrations and backgrounds have a very personal character; some panels are stunning and showcase technical mastery and a distinctive aesthetic vision. The steampunk setting, combined with European architecture from different eras, lends personality to the world and sets the work apart from other manga with more conventional settings.

Mechanical boxing is another of the manga's most appealing aspects. The fights carry real risk, and the fact that characters can die in the ring generates tension and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. This, along with the combination of drama and action, makes each fight a powerful moment within the story.

However, the plot execution leaves much to be desired in several aspects. It's quite predictable, with conflicts that are resolved in an obvious way and a story arc that won't surprise anyone accustomed to reading this type of manga. The exposition is excessive, relying on long blocks of text to provide context for the story, when much of that information could have been conveyed more visually or integrated into the action, and ultimately proves irrelevant. This makes the reading feel somewhat pointless in retrospect, especially considering its relatively short length.

Overall, Levius is entertaining and recommendable if you're looking for a short action story with dramatic elements and an interesting steampunk universe, but its execution and characters are quite generic. It's not a work that leaves a lasting impression, but it serves its purpose as a fast-paced and visually appealing read. It's enjoyable, though it doesn't go beyond what it shows on the surface, and is recommended to a certain extent.
