The art was awesome figuring it was in 2004. The back ground was breath taking. The only problems is that Sayuri didn't get with Hiroki and Takuya didn't get with Maki. The other is that the beginning didn't match with the end, like I thought they would meet again and tell each other their feelings after years, I waited and waited after the credits but all I got was the picture of the factory.

The war? Because it seems like it started because the Americans destroyed the tower. The tower was a bit disappointing at the top, I thought it would be romantic but hey was it plain. They would've made it emotional and romantic if they were on top of it and confessed their feelings. Takuya punching Hiroki didn't make sense and what's up with Sayuri being connected to the tower? I wasn't convinced.

But out of generosity I will give it a 7/10, but I don't think it deserves it.

How are people so satisfied with the way this ended. The end was pretty confusing for me, I mean the movie starts off with a prologue that makes it seem like this is going to have a tragic ending, so how does it end off with a "happy ending".

I think that maybe after a while Sayuri and Hiroki drift apart from eachother as she's forgotten how much she loved him in her "parallel world" and that would make much more sense, because of how he's introduced to us in the prologue.

At times poetic and beautiful, but for the most part lacking genuine emotion. The characters felt like they were just going through the motions, and the direction was all over the place. It could have been 20 minutes longer, and it wouldn't have suffered because then it wouldn't have felt so rushed, especially in the beginning moments, which were supposed to set everything up.

Not to mention how the entire point was that if Sayuri woke up the world would be destroyed by the parallel universe ... AND THEN SHE WOKE UP AND LITERALLY NOTHING HAPPENED?!?!?

Well, the tower was destroyed...it's obvious why disaster was avoided, or did you not understand the whole point of their 'terror' attack?

this wasn't absolutely terrible by any means, in fact i was pretty interested in it. but i couldn't help but wander off at some parts and i was a little confused at the plot at some points. i found it cool how i can see parallels between this and shinkai's other movies at least, 6/10 for me.

I fell asleep while watching this movie. I am still amazed how people praise this. Byousoku 5 Centimers was like this to. I watched the movie expecting something to happen but dissapointed

The ending I get, it's the beginning that I don't understand. In the ending, she loses her memories but there's still a chance that they could start their relationship anew. The beginning; however, seems to take place after the ending; of which he comes back to that place alone and looking all sad. I can only conclude that things didn't work out, she probably NTRed him like all Mokoto Shinkai movies.

2/5, didn't like it and didn't understand it. The movie with the shoe peddler and teacher was simpler and better.

This had potential but the execution was simply very lacking for me. I loved every other Shinkai film I've watched before this but I ended up falling asleep multiple times to this. I was actually glad that this was made in 2004 since it shows how much he's improved in his movie directing over the years. I tried to like this but it just felt like a drag...

While the background art's pretty good, the character designs looked very mediocre and bland even when compared to his other character designs. I did not have any attachment towards the main trio since I found them rather bland. The inclusion of many different plot points to complicate the story wasn't done very well either. Barely anything was done to properly depict the Separation and the discovery of parallel worlds aside from Ezo Tower. It's embarrassing to admit but it was so overcomplicated for me that I kind of stopped caring around the middle of the movie.

That part where the guy instinctively touched the girl's hand despite her only being an invisible astral projection of herself and them finally meeting each other again was my favorite part of the movie though. Very Your Name-esque~

The part I enjoyed about the movie was when it was finished. Thank God it's over!😫

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!

It was really disappointing, I was thinking it had potential at first, but then it started to get really bad and boring.

Decent movie, very reminiscent of voices of a distant star but much more bloated and less focused. Shinkai has definitely made better.

The first half was good, but the movie lost me during its second half. Some big plot points were not properly explained, maybe it was intentional but how about explaining why exactly is Sayuri's sleeping condition linked to the tower? The closest explanation they gave was that her grandfather was the designer of it, but that raises even more questions as to what the fuck even is that tower? Also, it's hard to believe how a single aircraft managed to sneak its way through a full-out war, especially with Hiroki piloting it who didn't have any prior experience.

The ending was cool though, Sayuri's dream memories were slowly fading as she woke up and she had forgotten everything by the time she was completely awake. I really hate it when it happens to me lol.

What on Earth did I just watch?

Shinkai has two sides: amazing movies, and trash fires. There are none in between, and this was well and truly the latter.

This movie was very good for me, the theme and the way the two friends worked together, the trust they had in each other, and the pure love realized between Sayuri and Hiroki was really natural. I feel very good that I had the opportunity to watch such a film, very good I can say, it left me with an exceptional opinion and I guarantee that it deserves much more attention!

kind of disappointing because I couldn't get a handle on the pacing. confusing as all hell as to the characters, their motivations, the world at large, the reason for the tower, the love interest that i don't think anyone was really buying (there was very little backstory to it), the whole link between the two and their dreams could have been explored more...

like a really good idea that probably sounded good in the writer's head but turned into a mess. could have been either shorter or longer, but at least pace it thoroughly because by the time the end came it was pure whiplash.
