First episode of 2012, a very nostalgic year for me but I don’t think I was watching anime yet at this time. The final stretch of this episode was so crazy that I almost forgot that Anderson died near the start of this one lol. RIP Anderson tho, to think I’d be sad the crazy superhuman from the Vatican died, but man he was cool and he proved himself to be a respectable guy with his actions in this Nazi invasion, his battle with Alucard was legendary despite him throwing away his humanity to win it, don’t think I’ll ever be able to hear Amen the same way ever again, Amen indeed. Also RIP Yumie, she got absolutely diced by Walter before getting to do much of anything, a bit of a shame because she was cool but I guess someone needed to be fodder to show how skilled Walter is with those wires, well at least she died out of anger for Anderson being disrespected. As for Heinkel, no idea why the Captain spared him but all it did was piss off Heinkel because he wasn’t seen as a threat, and also mess up his pretty boy face, so I wonder if he’s gonna do something cool in the finale.
Now the biggest part of this episode was Walter’s betrayal. It really seemed like he was captured and brainwashed, and he even joked about that when he made his grand entrance, but nope, this is all voluntary on his part, that’s a pretty big twist, I don’t think there were many signs of it but maybe I’d notice on a rewatch, but even if there weren’t any signs and it was kinda out of nowhere, I really appreciate the reveal just because it subverts expectations, it really seemed like the Nazis did something to him but that was just how it appeared. As for the reason for his betrayal, it’s a bit confusing because I don’t think we have the full picture yet, but all we have for now is that he wanted to defeat Alucard since World War 2 apparently, something happened back then that made him plan for this for all this time, and that’s why he bet everything on these few hours, this one battle right here, I think that’s really cool even if it’s a shame the badass butler was a bad guy, it seems like he really liked Seras as well from their short interaction in this episode. And the fight between Walter and Alucard might be one of the bests of the show, Walter was crazy with those wires and it was cool seeing Alucard on the defensive the whole time pretty much, I feel like Walter may have been able to win had it not been for certain circumstances, like for some reason Walter is coughing up blood and struggling to stand at certain points, I read some earlier posts to see if there were answers to that and I saw one saying it had to do with how quickly Walter was artificially vampirized, that would make sense but it wasn’t super clear in the show itself. There’s also that Luke Valentine reappeared in this fight, to think this goober that got owned by Alucard way early on would be a very relevant part of a battle near the end of the show, but I think he would’ve been better off dead because he was just used as a marionette and a decoy lol, I feel bad for the guy but at least he got to be relevant again.
But the way the episode ended tho, Alucard became a… femboy? I guess that’s just one of his many younger forms lol, and Walter became younger as well, didn’t realize Alucard had the power to do something like this. Pretty interesting turn of events to lead us into the longer final episode, also Integra and Seras went inside the mothership (poor Schrödinger lol), so we got some exciting stuff to look forward to for the ending. And the ED for this one was another really good one, I like that the visuals were focused on the handful of babes in this show. |
