Crazy to think this now 20 years old, But I stand by that even to this day the series is one of the highest of pinnacles in the medium despite some of my gripes having watched this season 10 times and many specific scenes on repeat these several years those few bad moments don't change that fact as far as Im concerned
Amazing romance, amazing characters be they main or side, amazing ideas and truly a breath taking experience from the very first episode which now marks the series as 20 years old

I stumbled on this right before RSA merger finalized, very fortunate to have been able to snag Limited Editions for II & III. Sadly unable to find a reasonably priced I version so I had to opt for "Essentials" but what a great series. It didn't ever really seem to get much attention because of Black Lagoon, Code Geass, Death Note, Ergo Proxy, Gintama, & Ouran High School Host Club dropping in '06.

I just finished my collection of Shana, the OVA Series & The Movie just came home recently.

One of the few romance Anime I enjoyed, alongside Toradora. Definitely need a remake because the final season was rushed.

@chaosnetwork

Nah nah, what we need is the rest of the LN stuff that wasn't adapted since season III perfectly fine as it is, you just need more context from the stuff that's left out to see the better picture

This series still makes me angry. I thought I had finally found a story where a (effectively) married couple fights shit together and then has a happy ending.

Then season 3 happened and just killed my enjoyment permanently. Still haven't finished the show nearly 10 years later.

I'm just never gonna relive that high from the first 14 episodes of SAO I guess.

@CMANIAC

People usually have either one of two problems with season III

1: They think the whole season is just battles with no plot seeming to forget that there is like several 2 or 3 episode stretches of time without much action and characters talking about their plans and hopes for the future or them reflecting on their past

2: They think the show is rushed because there is several LN books that aren't adapted, mostly the first war

which is an important back drop for several characters that appear in the second war in the season

@Deknijff

so it's the same morons that think the anime should be the exact same as the manga/LN/whatever. anime becomes a lot more enjoyable if you only consider the info the anime gives you instead of comparing it to material it obviously doesn't follow. I thought season 3 was perfect for allowing Shana to get past her over reliance on Yuji. she was forced to come to terms with her feelings and decide whether or not she should put her feelings aside for the sake of her mission, or question her mission entirely and choose to believe in love.

She was under the belief that all crimson denizens wanted was to endlessly consume human power of existence for their own survival or greed, hence the never ending fight. but when she was presented with the possibility that they just wanted their own place where they could live in peace, she refused to believe it because it went against everything she was taught as a flame haze. Throw all of that responsibility on her shoulders as the wielder of Alastor, as well as the complicated emotions of a teenage girl (especially since she was never taught how to understand her feelings) then of course she is going to cling to the Only thing that made sense to her which was the mission of th flame haze. Thus, the battle in Season 3 happened and Shana was forced to accept the reality that not all is what she believed.
