I am only considering ecchi/sexual fanservice. I am not considering shows that are ecchi/erotic cause it's supposed to be in them. I am only considering non-ecchi anime.

Zero care in any side of the question. There or not change nothing good works stand on their own regardless.

If it is in the source material, then it should be there in the anime as well, my stance is that simple. What I hate the most is when anime try to have their cake and eat it to though. If you are going to go to the effort of animating bath scenes where they are nude in the manga or something, you shouldn't be making the characters invisible because of "the steam" nobody is this stupid, cut the scene entirely because this is like slapping someone in the face. Likewise if a manga has a panty shot at a certain part, why would you take the camera angle and put it directly below the character but then have the skirt magically shift to cover it up. It's these ridiculous decisions that irritate me partway through watching more than anything else. I never would have thought of it if you didn't so clearly set it up. Just show the damn thing or cut the scenes entirely, being treated like an infant who didn't get big mommy corpo's permission to see through the "steam" is so much worse.

I don't like it, it's misogynistic and an objectification of women. And it completely takes me out of said anime

@Damuzen but you have no problem with objectification of men. The double standards always make me laugh.

@Otakupervert890 Where did I say I didn't care about the objectification of men?

Don't put words in my mouth.

@Damuzen you used feminine words instead of general wording. If you didn't like men objectification you could have used another word instead of misogynistic. Your comment was 100% only for female characters so own it and be clowned for the double standards.

@Otakupervert890 Women fanservice is far more proeminent in animanga than men's, it's normal for me to talk about them first.

You're just nitpicking about grammar, nice especially when it's directed against someone whose native language isn't English

I don't judge people based on their favourites but I'll make an exception for you: I don't have to be lectured on fanservice by someone who has such degenerate tastes.
"Discussion"'s closed on my end, I don't want to waste my time with this crap.

I'm more likely to dislike it than like it, but it's certainly possible to do it well. The more serious the anime is, the harder it is to do such things well.

Pet hate: the female characters go to bathe with each other and immediately start molesting each other's breasts.

@Damuzen it's not crap that you don't like both I don't care I don't care i even encourage you to do so. I didn't picked grammar to be malicious I picked up because the wording made explicit where you stand. Also what my favorite has to do with that? You seem going the assumption that am against you while in reality am on your side.

You can definitely have that but I want to say that sexualising fictional characters is never objectification, they are objects to begin with. Fictional characters are objects. Also, sexualisation is not misogynistic. Liking women is not the same as woman hating. Almost every straight man will be attracted by a sexy woman.

The more the better, in ecchi and non-ecchi alike.

Also, fanservice exists to service the fans. It was made by the author so that the horny guy (the target audience) will like it. Sometimes the author even like it themselves.

I like it if it fits the tone and characters. Sexuality is a part of the human experience, so it makes sense that it would be reflected in art.

Thats feminist language, they hate objectification in general, but it can different sometimes cause there are a lot of hypocrites everywhere. Don't know about this person.

@Damuzen Sexuality is not objectification. The idea that it is is misleading at best.

As long as it isn't halting the progress of an ongoing fight or disrupting a heartfelt scene/conversation, I tend not to mind too much.
Don't let others ruin things for you. Even if a toxic fan pisses in your cereal, you could just get another bowl of cereal.

More fanservice, please. It shows that the creators care about the fans.

If it's in a non-ecchi anime, it depends on how obnoxious the fan service are.

When I watch/read mushoku tensei, it's obvious from the start: oh, the characters are perverts, so if there's a panty shot, I'm not surprised.
But then I read the Roxy side-story manga, and I was so shocked by the sheer number of panty shots that I had to pause for a moment and think: was there really a need for panty shots in that scene?

I'm not against it, but I agree that there are some anime/manga that make me blink and wonder, was it really necessary?
Is the creators so afraid of the anime/manga not being interesting enough that they have to dangle some keys like that?

No, it's usually because both the creators and fans like it. The creators will put a panty shot as long as they can. In every single panel they can. Thats how it works.

@5degree I don't know, man
There are some manga out there whose stories have gotten worse, and their popularity seems to be declining.
And out of nowhere they put a borderline hentai omake chapter.

Panty shots is not down to that level, but things like that, to me at least, feels like it's just a desperate bait for the main story.
Especially if it comes out of nowhere.

@undeed I assume with things like that, the author is basically making the proposition: "read my work and I will entertain you in two ways, with this story and with this underwear" on the assumption that their audience likes both.

This may be frustrating if you like one, but not the other.

As long as it doesn’t affect the main storytelling, I’m okay with it because I value overall storytelling more than cheap pleasure or weak presentation of pure art.

As long as it's called fanservice, it is definitionally included not to improve characterization, but as a low-brow commercialization that exploits the characters to make money selling pornography. I'm fine with pornography and I'm fine with hentai, but let's not damage the storytelling to do so.

@logopolis yeah,
and also in my example there, I imagine a lot of people checking out Roxy's side story after they know about the main story,
so I kind of understand if the mangaka just wants to fulfill the readers' expectations.
