Haven't read this in over a decade. This series had potential, sad what it became.

Ever since the plagiarism drama, the subsequent hiatus, change from weekly to monthly and the irregular releases, I have no idea what's going on anymore.

Last I remember it was revealed Mana was The Earl and then there was some Innocense Avatar hunting Allen. None of that shit made any sense.

I think I remember Allen being the vessel for mana/earl's brother nea so nea could take over Allen's body to take revenge on mana/earl for killing him or something, but I could be wrong it's also been ages since I read too😭😭

It still has potential. The latest chapters have really been mind-blowing. A lot of theories from the beginning are actually seeming to pay off, and I'm still enjoying and waiting patiently for every release that comes. Also...what plagiarism drama do you mean? Nothing of that sort has happened.

Also, you quit right before the Earl being Mana was explained in one of the greatest backstories of Allen and Mana. It makes perfect sense when you catch up. The innocence hunting Allen is also explained in the backstory.

As far as the latest season (Hollow) which was horribly adapted, you are right.

I'll try to summarize what i remember. Allen and Yu traveled with Tiedol, but Allen teleported to the campbell mansion and Yu went with him. Then we got a lengthy Allen backstory. Apparenty the Allen we know was called red as a kid, because of his red arm, i think he also has red hair. He worked at a circus, there was a dog there that was called Allen. There were two evil people working at the circus and if i remember correctly one of them was apocryphos. Red also met Mana and they became friends. Apocryphos kills Allen and mana buries him i think, but he doesn't want to cry because he's affraid the earl will take over. Something happens and the earl is back and he tries to kill Red but Cross Marian saves him. Eventually we exit the backstory and we are back to the present. Tiedoll and Yu leave on their own and they go to the grave of i think Mana (i could be wrong) and it's empty. Allen realizes where he needs to go because of what the 14th said to him, he has to go to some other mansion and meet some new people with Johnny Gill and Howard Link. Allen drinks some poison and remembers his past. We go into another backstory, Red, who might be called Allen now is on a journey with the previous bookman jr. Who has silver hair, Apocryphos tries to kill Allen but bookman jr combines with Allen and they transform into some strange form and they stay that way for many years. The Allen we know is a combination of Red and the previous bookman jr. That's why he has silver hair. Allen gets saved in the present by Link but Link almost dies trying to save him. They wake up and the three characters who arrived at this new place leave with the new characters somewhere, also we see Lavi for the first time in a very long time.

You should reread it, because once you do everything makes sense. I didn't catch up on it for about 10-12 years because it was hard to hang on with the plot threads with the slow releases. I don't think that the current state of the series is sad, or that it is losing potential. It is slow-burning, sure, but plot threads established over 10 years ago are beginning to be teased out.

The "Innocence Avatar" (named Apocryphos) is hunting Allen because he has influenced Allen's life to turn him into the proper 'sacrifice' to the Heart. His sole existence is to protect and make sacrifices to the Heart. The influence is described in another reply above; Apocryphos set a trap for Allen by convincing an adult to nearly kill him after Allen's dog died. This summoned the Earl, and awakened Allen's innocence power, because Allen needed to protect himself against being killed. The Heart hasn't awoken yet but will awaken if Allen is sacrificed to him after awakening innocence and undergoing the amount of trauma and hardship Allen has suffered (because suffering makes the sacrifice a higher quality - apparently). This implies that Allen isn't the Heart. The identity of the Heart is still one of the biggest remaining mysteries of the manga.

Mana is the Earl. The story behind it is quite tragic. He is half of the Earl's soul, and he ate his beloved twin Nea, who is the other half of Earl's soul, because the Earl's spirit took over his mind and forced him to. This traumatized Mana so bad that he got memory loss and adopted Allen. His memory deteriorated significantly while he knew Allen. Hence why Allen can have a sweet backstory with Mana: Mana has no idea who he or anyone else is.

Also, the Noah's backstory has begun to be revealed. They are remnants from a prior universe, which was ended by a vast pillar of light. The pillar of light is seen in chapters written and drawn over 10 years ago - so it has been lurking behind the plot the whole time. We still don't know a lot about this.

The main confusing point in the manga is that so many characters share the same name. There's original!Allen, dog!Allen, protagonist!Allen...

@EmperorEdward The author of DGM was accused of plagiarizing Trigun, Full Metal Alchemist, Death Note, etc. But that drama is from 20 years ago and never really made much sense, not sure how long it actually lasted.
