I'm so glad i didn't drop this anime. This episode made me cry, in a good way. The way they realized what they were doing was wrong, how the story told us exactly what was going on and the realization. It all came full force. this is easily the best episodes in the anime by far. 10/10 episode! The backstory broke me

How was this sad? A show needs to have introduced characters for more than just 5 episodes to justify the talk no jutsu, they should have left it to Naruto. Also why was he screaming and biting like he experienced that Tokyo Ghoul Kaneki treatment? There has to be a limit to using these exaggerated tropes, but animation does carry so its cool i guess

"Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow.
Don't follow me, I may not lead.
Walk beside me, like a friend."
—Albert Camus

That was quite a lot of psychoanalysis for a single episode, with a healthy dash of philosophy.

The treasure chest on the top of the hill was empty because it is lonely at the top -there's only spot for one- and due to the journey being far more important than the destination, as all Odysseus of this world have realized.

I thought that kid had a messed up past, with lots of trauma, but he got depressed after reaching the top due to disconnecting from his friends —partly because of his own actions and partly due to Togame placing a firewall around him.

So Umemiya literally acted like his... psychotherapist*. He "helped him return to himself" (Saint-Exupéry - his definition of love), and thus brought light back to his eyes!

I enjoy stories that dig deeper than usual, but I never expected such a deep dive from a show about delinquents. This is why this was my first 5/5 rated episode.

*or simply a friend, as he said 😊

I like the outcome but it felt cheesy. Umemiya is a chad.
