Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu

After his relationship with Eris Boreas Greyrat reaches new heights, Rudeus Greyrat is ecstatic. Unfortunately, his joy is short-lived, as Eris suddenly abandons him to embark on her own journey. Believing that Eris has lost all interest in him, a heartbroken and depressed Rudeus sets forth to the Northern Territories. With his sole goal being to locate his mother on the vast continent, Rudeus wonders if persisting through daily life is worth the pain, falling into a robotic routine as he endlessly ruminates on his lost love.

However, the dangers of the North soon prove that one cannot survive with a dulled mind. While on a quest with the party Counter Arrow, with whom he recently became acquainted, Rudeus has a brush with death—an experience that forces him to finally snap out of his despair. With his newfound teammates, Rudeus rediscovers the pleasure of daily adventuring and moves forward with his original goal of living his second lease on life to the fullest.

S2 Prt 1 honestly surprised me with how seriously it handled rudy’s ed arc. i went in fully expecting the show to make cheap jokes about it but they didn’t. Instead they treat it like a real emotional struggle. It’s one of the few times this season shows genuine maturity and that i have to appreciate.

rudy himself continues to be one of the show’s biggest strengths, mainly bcuz he isn’t written like your standard good boy protagonist. he’s a mess, he’s morally questionable and half the time he behaves like a scumbag, but that’s also what makes him interesting. You’re not rooting for him bcuz ... he’s a hero, you’re rooting for him bcuz he’s trying, failing and trying again. His friendship and growing bond with sylphie is also well handled. It feels natural, supportive and honestly one of the more wholesome parts of the season.

whatever the status of slavery is in this world, rudy casually buying a person, despite being someone who lived 30+ years in modern japan, says a lot about his morality. what really bothers me is that the show doesn’t comment on it at all. they could’ve handled that entire situation so much better. there’s no internal conflict, no reflection, no consequences. It’s like the narrative drops this morally heavy moment in front of us and then just moves on, as if it never mattered.

Right after that, there's a whole incident where rudy kidnaps and then assaults a pair of beast girls just bcuz they damaged his figurine. This whole subplot honestly just highlights how awful rudy can be sometimes, and what’s worse is that nobody around him ever seems to react or hold him accountable. The story treats it like a minor inconvenience instead of the genuinely fucked up thing it is.

still, despite those rough patches these 12 eps deliver some genuinely powerful emotional moments. the way it explores trauma, healing, and acceptance is fantastic. When the show commits to its themes, it hits hard and that’s ultimately what kept me invested through the weaker parts.

Mixed Feelings

The first installment of Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu falls short of expectations. While it maintains visual and animation standards akin to the prior season, it notably reduces the intensity and quantity of its action sequences. Instead, the focus shifts towards exploring interpersonal dynamics and emotions. Although this shift isn't inherently negative, Part 1 unfolds at a noticeably slower pace. Additionally, several of the new characters are introduced to the series through supplementary side content rather than within the primary storyline. Apart from Rudeus’s introspective journey and trauma resolution, the core storyline lacks substantial content, adding to the sluggish pacing of the installment. ... Moreover, Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu Part 1 fails to propel the story forward significantly, marking a low point in the overall series.

I honestly don’t get the massive hype at all — if anything, the show straight-up disgusts me. Mushoku Tensei feels like one of the very few places where pedophilia isn’t just tolerated, but actively defended or even celebrated by parts of the fanbase.

Season one was somewhat interesting, if you ignore the disgusting and cringe moments for a second. The animation is obviously amazing, the overall journey has potential, and a lot of the side characters are genuinely cool.
But season two? For me it mostly revolves around fixing his impotence so he can go back to sleeping with minors. And that’s somehow framed as meaningful character ... development.

What really annoys me is the mental gymnastics people use to justify it. On one hand, they argue that “he’s basically just a kid too.” On the other hand, they’ll say he navigates life better and finds smarter solutions because he’s mentally almost 50 years old. You can’t have it both ways. Either he’s a child or he’s a grown man with decades of life experience. Pick one.

I’m all for creative freedom, even when it comes to uncomfortable or controversial topics. But just because an author can do something doesn’t mean fans need to blindly excuse or defend every piece of bullshit. And the way some fanboys aggressively justify this stuff honestly makes the whole thing even more off-putting.
