Nejimaki Seirei Senki: Tenkyou no Alderamin

Ikta Solork is a carefree young man who only wants two things in life: a woman on his arm and a place to nap. Unfortunately, his peaceful life is destroyed when war breaks out between the Katjvarna Empire and the neighboring Republic of Kioka. Ikta and his childhood friend, Yatorishino Igsem, join the army as military officers, where they meet the infantryman Matthew Tetojirichi, the sniper Torway Remion, and the medic Haroma Becker on a boat heading for the military exam site.

However, after a rogue storm sinks their vessel, the five of them end up in enemy territory near a military outpost. There, they discover that the heir to the Katjvarnan throne, Princess Chamille Kitora Katjvanmaninik, has been taken hostage. The five are able to rescue her, and as a reward, each one of them is granted the title of Imperial Knight—one of the highest honors a soldier can receive. It seems that Ikta will have to put his dream of tranquility on hold, as he must now become the hero he never wanted to be.

To be exact i would rate this with my first ever decimal rate review of my life, a 7.6/10. its closer to 8 thats why i rate it an 8. If you like Tensai Ouji No Akaji, this is a great watch. I’d like to say this is the somewhat i would call one of the predecessor of a nation ruling anime. I’ll break it down in a simple manner. But the major downside is the lack of depth to the story.

But first, i did genuinely underestimated this anime. I found this anime because of a clip and i start to judge this with “ah ... another perverted harem op mc, let me check the rate for this anime”.

And then, i was surprised by the high average rating of this anime. This reason alone pique intrest in me to find it out myself. For me, starting from 7 above is a high rating.

Lets start.

Lets start with whats good about this anime,
The personality of each of the characters is bold with their emotions, which is something that i do indeed like. There is no annoying naivety found. Conflicts, like all the smart mc do. He predicts what the enemy would predict his prediction is and he countered the inceptions of predictions with his ultimate counter prediction HAHA, that is as mouthful of me.

i like how they set up the pacing of the timeskips in the anime. If this is a 24 episode anime, im sure this would be a solid 8 and would be a solid banger. To he exact, It has huge potential to be a great anime. But, it just failed to deliver its full potential.

This anime had an confusing start that overwhelmed me, a person who doesn’t read any of the description or summary of the plot. Why did i felt overwhelmed? Because the lack of background naratives that build the story.

The lack of narrative to especially the introduction on what kind of world was this anime about, whats the story behind the main/supporting characters, technological era. For me the adaptation was lacking in depth. Surely this is a fatal mistake for an adaptation, but somehow i can’t give it lower than an 7. Because i truely enjoy this show. The story is almost excellent.

But, its too easy to predicts on what is going to happen. The character in this anime is well writen, except for the depth of the background of each character. I don’t feel any bond made between me as the watcher with any of the characters. Compare it to wein and ninym, this anime is as shallow as it can get on creating bonds between characters as well.

I can still enjoy the art on this anime, its different but its not weird. It has good physics, the downside of it is, it shows blood, graphics and cuts but… theres no decapitation lol, so whats the point? stabby stabby and cut but theres no head rolls? cmon mannnnn, this could make it better.

Nonetheless, I don’t find this boring. I don’t feel like i wasted my time watching this so i’ll put it on a recommendation if you like similar titles like Tensai Ouji No Akaji. I will be continuing to their manga because i think its worth to continue to read.

Mixed Feelings

A young prodigy tactician and incredible swordswoman go through military trials and tribulations together.

STORY
The story brings 2 protagonists, which is interesting to see how fate will pit them against one another - throughout the series, it is foreshadowed that Ikta will die by Yatori's blades. The story progresses smoothly, is not crammed, and has time to breathe and evaluate what you just watched. Ikta and Yatori being forced into the military and becoming notable figures is a decent progression, given the two characters' individual values. The world building is mediocre, as the viewer has no clue what their empire is, how big it is, who ... they are fighting, etc. It is mostly "blank nation vs blank nation vs blank nation". The story is cohesive, following the protagonists in their rise through the military ranks, ending on a certain type of cliffhanger. The story feels like it is very much in the beginning stages of a multi-season series, as we only get backstory for the main characters, and a narrative setup for a later season. The military tactics used by Ikta are interesting, even though the viewer is not exactly filled in on the information of the battlefield nor Ikta's thought process, making it more of a "what will he come up with next" type of story.
Lots of things

CHARACTERS
Anyone outside of the main characters is one-dimensional - Matthew is scared, the sniper is brave and noble, the medic girl is "clumsy". The main characters get some good development, though not changing much throughout the season. Ikta is a very typical smart character, outsmarting everyone he meets, and Yatori is almost a murder machine, being the stronger of the two. Luckily, outside of Ikta's "smart" side, he deeply cares for people and is genuinely obsessed with learning about the world around him, which salvages his character. Yatori has a set goal for her life, by nature of her family name: become a soldier that never loses, and always supports the empire. Her trouble being her upbringing maybe clashing with her personal opinions? Viewer does not see much of that.
The only character I am on the fence about is the Princess. It is foreshadowed numerous times that she has a certain obsession with Ikta, which presumably is love or a crush. This in and of itself is nothing out of the ordinary, as young people have that. But why make the princess 12 years old? the story would have been the same if the protagonists were 22 and the princess 18 or 19. I could see a love developing from the Princess' side and that would just be unfortunate, story wise. Other than that, how the hell does she know what's best for the empire at 12 years old?????? We get that she's a sharp lady which is great! But again, making the characters a bit older would have made it easier to envision.

ANIMATION
Art style is incredibly mediocre, with the highlight probably being the small creatures they use. Nothing noteworthy, except that the character design for Ikta is exceptionally mediocre. You would have thought they put more time into his character design as he is a protagonist. The princess looks like Killua's father from Hunter X Hunter, and the animation of the holy knights riding away on horseback was hilariously bad. Overall, not bad not great - most of the time, it was not so bad that it impacted your enjoyment.

OPINION
Alderamin on the sky is an interesting military tactician story, interlaced with personal relationships, and painfully underdeveloped with non-Japanese speaking audiences not having an official way to continue this series. The Light Novels are not translated into English, and it is imaginable that there will not be any further anime seasons. Based on the fact that this is all we'll get, the story is decent, with an alright setup for what could become a great story - Ikta, fighting in an empire's military, when he is against empires, military, war, and injustice, and Yatori obeying any command she's given, eventually biting her in the ass when she has to do obviously wrong things.
As it stands, Ikta is a mediocre smart character, Yatori does not have much backstory, the only thing that makes them interesting is their connection. The rest of the characters are one-dimensional, almost throw-away characters. The animation is good at points and laughable at other points, with generic character designs (also falling for the same issues, massive boobs, pleated skirts, etc.). The story is interesting, but never gets out of its beginning stages.

CONCLUSION
Alderamin on the sky has decent plot ideas - á la Death Note, where the viewer is always guessing what is gonna happen together with the protagonist(s) - with decent characters, mediocre animation and art style, decent OST, mediocre world building, but was never allowed to go somewhere with it. I would love to see how the story develops, but as it stands it is a pretty middle-of-the-road series.

The 11th episode proves that the redhead is nothing more than a brainless, obedient dog to royalty. She follows orders without question, incapable of thinking for herself. The MC should have abandoned her from the start because a mindless slave like her doesn’t deserve love. No matter how much he cared for her, it was meaningless—if royalty ordered it, she’d kill him without hesitation. His devotion was a pathetic waste.

The MC is a genius when it comes to strategy, but when it comes to love, he’s a complete idiot—he should have picked someone else. The only great part of this anime is watching him use ... his brains to solve problems. The story overall is okay, and the MC is pretty cool.

If you’ve finished the story all the way to the novel, congratulations—you’ve wasted your life. Same goes for the anime.
